About the drug:

Clindamycin and Tretinoin is a combination medicine prescribed for the treatment of severe nodular acne in adults and children who are at least 12 years or above in age. Clindamycin is an antibiotic which fights bacteria in the body whereas Tretinoin is a form of vitamin A which reduces the amount of oil produced by the oil glands in the skin and helping it renew itself quickly.

Uses of the drug:

Tretinoin is a drug that is used for the treatment of Acne. It helps to treat the acne symptoms and lessen the acne marks. This medication may also be prescribed for conditions not listed here.

Working of the drug:

Tretinoin is a very active exfoliator that accelerates the skin cycle. The retinoic acid improves the pigmentation by speeding up the elimination of melanin in the dermis. It also increase collagen levels in the skin cells and improve fine wrinkles. It does not, however, have an effect on deep converges formed on the skin and ice pick scars. How much to apply the drug?

Tretinoin comes in topical liquid, Gel or gel forms. Apply small amount of the topical product as per the doctor’s advice. Always take the drug dose as prescribed by the doctor only. Never change
the dosage, start, or stop using the drug without doctor’s permission.

How to apply the drug?

  • While applying Tretinoin Gel, follow these steps:
  • Wash your hands and the skin area affected using a mild soap and water
  • Pat dry your skin with a cotton cloth
  • Wait for 15-30 minutes before applying this medicine
  • Use clean fingertips, a cotton swab to apply the medication( a pea sized)
  • Apply only the enough amount of medicine to cover the area lightly
  • Apply it religiously before bedtime, so as the acne scars heal faster. Proper care of the infected area is necessary. Time to time application of the Gel will prove beneficial and will speed up the healing procedure.

For how long to apply?

Overdose:

Therefore, while using Clindamycin and Tretinoin, avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunlamps or tanning beds). If you do require to go out and get exposed to sunlight,
protect your skin by wearing proper protective clothing and putting on a good sunscreen. Ask your doctor about the type (SPF) of sunscreen to be used. Your skin mayalso become sensitive to weather conditions such as cold, wind, or dryness. You must protect your skin with proper clothing and products like moisturizing cream or lotion as needed.

Common drug interactions:

Certain other drugs can interact with Tretinoin/Clindamycin and increase the risk of serious problems. So, it is necessary to consult your doctor about the following drugs such as:
