Amlopres +Valzaar is a combination drug containing two ingredients, namely Amlodipine Besylate, a long-acting Dihydropyridine-type calcium channel blocker and Valsartan, which is an Angiotensin II receptor antagonist and keeps blood vessels in a relaxed state. The combination of both drugs is given in hypertension or high blood pressure. Lowering the high blood pressure (Hypertension) helps prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems. It is quite a helpful drug in increasing the ability to exercise and decrease the frequency of angina attacks. Amlodipine Besylate is a calcium channel blocker. It works by inhibiting the movement of calcium ions through L type calcium channels into the vascular tissues and cardiac muscle cells. By inhibiting the entry of calcium channels, it decreases the contractility of arterial smooth muscles and causes vasodilation. This leads to the relaxation of blood vessels and helps in the smooth blood flow, hence lowering the overall BP. Valsartan is an Angiotensin II receptor blocker to Angiotensin-I and is mainly found in tissues such as smooth muscles and adrenal glands. Angiotensin exerts vasoconstriction and aldosterone effects. This inhibition leads to dilatation of blood vessels and reduces blood pressure.
Inform your physician about all the current medications that you have been using, including over the counter products. Consumption of grapefruit should be avoided while consuming this combination drug. Grapefruit can raise the levels of Amlodipine in the blood, which contributes to a hike in blood pressure, thereby reducing the effects of the medicine.
Most people using Amlopres+valzaar do not show side effects. Few patients show side effects which include dizziness, numbness, heart failure, decreased heartbeats, low blood pressure, tiredness, constipation, diarrhoea, impotence, swelling, itching, impaired vision, nausea, headache etc.
