About the drug:

Amphotericin is the main active pharmaceutical ingredient present in Amphotret Injection. Amphotericin B is a freeze dried preparation for intravenous injection. It is a polyene macrolide antifungal antibiotic obtained from a strain of Streptomyces nodosus,  used to treat life-threatening fungal infections.

Uses of the drug:

Amphotericin B Injection should be administered primarily to patients with progressive, potentially life-threatening fungal infections. This medication should not be used to treat minor fungal infections such as oral thrush, vaginal candidiasis and oesophageal candidiasis in patients having normal neutrophil counts. It is specifically indicated in the treatment of fungal infections such as oral, Cutaneous, vaginal candidiasis, otomycosis, Mucocutaneous candidiasis, fungal meningitis, kala azar, cryptococcosis, and histoplasmosi.

Working of the drug:

This drug consists of Amphotericin. It works by Altering the fungal cell membrane permeability by binding it to the sterol component of the cell membrane and thus kills the outer covering of the fungus and this is how it treats the fungal infections.
