If people experience any of the signs and symptoms, then symptoms appear between one to three weeks after having unprotected sex with an infected person. In some people, Chlamydia symptoms occur after months, or not until the infection has spread. Some of the most common symptoms of Chlamydia include the following:

• Burning sensation during urination
• Pain in the lower abdomen
• Unusual discharge from the penis or vagina
• Pain in the testicles in men
• Painful sexual intercourse in women

In case you perform unprotected anal or oral sex, you may get Chlamydia infection of the rectum, eyes, or throat. If the infected sexual fluid comes into contact with the eyes you can develop conjunctivitis. However, infection in the rectum can cause discomfort, bleeding, pain, or discharge. Infection in the throat isn’t common and causes no symptoms.

Also Read: How Contraceptives Will Save Your Teenage Kids

What are the causes of Chlamydia?
People of all ages and sexes can get Chlamydia infection. The prime reason of getting attacked by Chlamydia is having sexual relations with partner/s suffering with the same disease. Exchanging of sexual fluid between partners from the penis or vagina proves to be the primary cause ofChlamydia even if the penis does not enter the vagina, anus or mouth. Researchers have stated in their studies that people under the age of 25 are at higher risk of being infected with Chlamydia1. It is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that may be transmitted by having unprotected vaginal, oral, or anal sex with an infected person. Chlamydia infection may also spread if a person’s genitals come into contact with his/her partner’s genitals.

However, Chlamydial infection often presents no symptoms, which means that an infected person may pass it on to his/her sexual partner without knowing. Chlamydia may also be passed from an infected mother to her child during childbirth and sometimes the infection may lead to complications for the infant, such as pneumonia. Additionally, sexual fluid can cause conjunctivitis if it gets into someone’s eye.

Treatment of Chlamydia infection:
Diagnosing the condition is the best option if you think you have Chlamydia. Doctor may perform a test that can be carried out straight away after having sex or after two weeks of having sex. If the reports find you active, then your doctor starts performing the treatment. Since a bacterium is the leading cause of Chlamydia, so the disease can be treated with antibiotics. The doctor may prescribe you antibiotics including Azithromycin in a single dose and Doxycycline to be taken twice per day for about a week.

However, with treatment, the infection probably clears up within a week. But, your doctor may suggest you some important points to follow:

• Not to have sex for at least seven days until all your medications have been taken up by you
• Do not stop taking antibiotics when feeling better
In order to prevent the reoccurrence of infection, your doctor may recommend your partner(s) to be treated as well. The prime cause of Chlamydia is bacteria and in women it can develop severe infections like pelvic inflammatory disease. So, to treat the condition a longer course of antibiotics or hospitalization is needed and in cases of severe pelvic infections surgery is required.

Also Read: Maca Powder- A Sex Stimulant and Energiser

Conclusion:
Chlamydia is one of the common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and the consequences of it are severe and can have lifelong implications.
