Acivir dispersible tablet 400 mg contains the active ingredient aciclovir, which belongs to the group of medicines known as Antivirals. It kills the virus or stops the growth of the virus.
Acivir dispersible tablet is a prescription medicine for the treatment of viral infections. It is active against two common viral infestations, herpes simplex (HSV) types I and II and varicella-zoster virus. The medicine effectively treats cold sores around the mouth and shingles caused by herpes zoster. The medication is also useful in treating outbreaks of genital herpes. In patients with frequent outbreaks, Aciclovir causes a significant reduction in the number of future episodes. However, it is not a cure for these viral infections. The virus that causes this viral infection continues to live in the body. The medicine helps the sores heal faster, decrease pain and itching associated and prevent the formation of new sores. It decreases the severity and length of episodes of genital herpes. The medicine can reduce the risk of the virus spreading to other parts of the body. People with a weak immune system can also benefit from this antiviral agent as it can decrease the risk of the virus spreading to other parts of the body, causing severe infections.
Do not take Acivir dispersible tablet 400 mg if you are allergic to Aciclovir or any other inactive ingredient. If you are not sure, please speak to your doctor. Talk to your doctor, before taking this medicine, especially if you have kidney problems or you are an older adult who is 65 years of age and above. It is essential to drink plenty of water during the treatment.
In children, Acivir dispersible tablet can be used mainly for the treatment of simplex herpes virus. Consult your doctor for the right dose of Aciclovir that suits best to your child.
Headache, vomiting, diarrhoea, and nausea may occur. If any of these side effects persist or stays for a longer duration, please tell your doctor straight away. Tell your doctor straight away if you experience any severe side effects such as signs of kidney problems, mood changes, trouble speaking, drowsiness, dizziness, and unsteady movement. A severe allergic reaction to this medicine is rare, however, take immediate medical support if you notice symptoms of an allergic reaction, trouble breathing, itching rash, or dizziness. Dissolve Acivir 400 mg tablet in a glass of water and stir after drinking. You can also swallow the tablet with a glass of water. The dose you should take will depend on your condition and severity of episodes. Your doctor will prescribe the medicines after discussing with you. Your doctor may adjust the dose for a child patient, people who are over 65 years of age, or people who have kidney problems. People with kidney disease are advised to drink plenty of fluids while receiving Aciclovir.
