Pirox gel 30 gm temporarily relieves the pain and inflammation associated with sprains/strains and tendonitis. It contains the active ingredient Piroxicam, which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Although it helps to resolve the symptoms of pain and inflammation, it will not cure the underlying tissue damage and will not treat bruises. Piroxicam works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Piroxicam reduces the pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Do not use Pirox gel if you have an allergy to any of the following:

 

   — Piroxicam or any of the ingredients of the medicine

   — Aspirin

   — Other medicines containing Piroxicam

   — Any other medicine that is an NSAID

   — Many medicines used to treat headaches, period pain, and other pain contain aspirin or an NSAID agent.  

 

Also, you must tell your doctor if:

 

   — You are allergic to any other medicine, food, dyes, or preservatives

   — Asthma

   — Stomach ulcers

   — Kidney, liver, or heart problems

   — Raised blood pressure

   — Bleeding from the bowel or stomach

   — Inflammation of the intestines, such as Chrohn’s disease

   — Swelling of fluid

 

Your doctor will discuss the risk and benefits of using the medicine.

Tell your doctor if you notice any of the following and they worry you:

  • Redness, mild itching, swelling, dermatitis, and blistering of the skin in the treated area. Mild skin irritation may occur at the site where the gel has been applied.

 

If any of the following occurs, stop using Pirox gel and tell your doctor immediately or visit an emergency care centre:

  • Asthma, wheezing, or breathing difficulties
  • Sudden or severe itching, skin rash, hives over large areas of skin
  • Swelling the face/lips/throat/tongue may cause swallowing and breathing difficulties.

 

These are very serious side effects. You may need immediate medical help. However, these side effects are rarely reported.

Pirox gel helps treat pain or inflammation by releasing substances that reduce pain. Use it on healthy skin. Do not apply on open wounds or injuries or to skin that has a rash or infection. Gently rub the small amount of gel on the sore or swollen area 3 to 4 times daily. It is important to rub the gel completely because the formulation if left on the skin, may cause mild skin staining or clothes. Wash your hands each time after applying the medicine. Do not cover the affected skin area with a bandage or dress.      

 

Your prescriber will tell you how often to use the gel. This is usually three or four times a day. The directions will also begive on your prescription. If you have found any doubts, please ask your doctor.  

 

If your symptoms do not improve after two weeks or worsen, stop the treatment and tell your doctor.
