Oxitan 100mg/50ml is an anti-cancer drug used to treat advanced colon or rectal cancer. It contains the active ingredient Oxiplatin, which works by killing the rapidly growing cancer cells. This medicine affects the fast-growing cancer cells in your body. It can be used alone or in combination with other anti-cancer agents. The medicine is given intravenously or into the vein. The dose you receive will also depend on results of blood tests and whether you have earlier experienced side effects of Oxitan solution for infusion.
Talk to your health care specialist before taking aspirin, aspirin-containing products, vitamins or herbal medicines. You should inform your health care expert, if you are allergic to any medication, or have moderate to severe kidney problems. If you or your partner become pregnant while taking Oxiplatin, talk to your health care professional. Use birth control measures during cancer treatment. Hydrate yourself, drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. Once the treatment is over, discuss when to discontinue birth control measures with your health care provider. You may experience nausea and vomiting, take the anti-nauseatic drug as directed by your health care specialist. Usually, there are 14 days between each treatment course of chemotherapy.
Like all medicines, Oxiplatin can also cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Tell your physician immediately if you notice sore lips or mouth ulcers, allergic reactions, abnormal bruising, or low platelet count. Your physician will check your blood to make sure your blood cells before you start treatment. Other side effects may include blockage or swelling of the bowel, a serious infection of the blood, ringing in ears, vertigo, and difficulty in hearing. If you get any of these side effects, please discuss with your physician. These may include side effects not mentioned in this information guide. Call your health care specialist if you have signs of dehydration, including thirst, decreased urination, dry mouth, tiredness, and light-headedness. Tell your health care professional if you have side effects that become troublesome or does not go away. Signs and symptoms of infection are the danger signals to report immediately to your physician.
Oxitan 100mg/50ml should be received under the supervision of a qualified physician who is experienced in using cancer chemotherapeutic agents. Use Oxiplatin in combination with 5-fluorouracil/leucovorin every two weeks. For adjuvant use, your physician may recommend for a total for six months. Usually, the dose of Oxitan solution for infusion is based on the condition being treated. The dose you will receive will also depend on the results of blood tests. Your physician will determine the duration of cancer treatment. Your treatment will last for six months when used after complete removal of your tumour.
