Coversyl 4 mg effectively treats hypertension (high blood pressure), coronary artery disease (CAD), and heart failure. It contains the active ingredient perindopril, categorized under the medications known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.

High blood pressure - Coversyl helps to lower blood pressure. Everyone has blood pressure, which helps get your blood all around the body. Your blood pressure may fluctuate depending on how busy or tense you are. You have high blood pressure when your blood pressure remains higher than needed, even when relaxed. People with high blood pressure do not have symptoms. The only way to know you have it is to check your blood pressure regularly. If left untreated, it may cause life-threatening problems. You may feel fine, but eventually, it can cause stroke, heart disorder, and kidney failure.

Heart failure - Coversyl helps to treat heart failure. In heart failure, the heart muscle can't pump blood strongly enough to supply all the blood required throughout the body. The heart problem begins with no symptoms, but as the condition progresses, you may feel breathless or tired easily after walking or other light physical activity. In severe heart failure, symptoms, including breathlessness, may appear even at rest.

Coronary artery disease - Also known as CAD, Coronary artery disease is the narrowing of the blood vessels that carry blood to the heart. Coversyl has been shown to reduce the risk of a heart attack.

Coversyl is contraindicated in patients known to be hypersensitive to this medicine or any other ACE inhibitor.

Do not Coversyl if you have or have had any of the following health issues.

    –   Diabetes or renal insufficiency and taking aliskiren to manage high blood pressure.

    –   Undergoing dialysis

    –   With Previous ACE inhibitor treatment, you have experienced symptoms such as intense itching, wheezing, lips, tongue, face, or throat swelling, or severe skin rashes.

Do not take Perindopril if you take a combined medicine called valsartan/sacubitril, which is used to treat heart failure as the risk of angioedema (rapid swelling under the skin) increases.

Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Avoid taking it if you are breastfeeding.

Before you begin the treatment, tell your doctor if your liver disease, low blood pressure, diabetes, high or low potassium levels, or abnormally increased levels of hormones. You must inform your doctor if you take angiotensin II receptor blockers such as telmisartan, valsartan, or Irbesartan.

Common side effects include:

    –   Headache, vertigo, pains, and needles

    –   Cough, shortness of breath, and discomfort

    –   Feeling tired or lethargic

    –   Muscle cramps, rash, pruritis

    –   Tinnitus and vision disturbances

    –   Chages in the rhythm or rate of the heartbeat

    –   Nausea, vomiting, indigestion and taste disturbances, diarrhoea, constipation, and stomach pain.

Consult your doctor if you experience these or notice anything else that makes you unwell.

Follow all instructions as directed by the doctor. Your doctor will tell you how much to take medicine. This will depend on your condition, such as older adults or severe kidney failure, and whether you take any other medicine.

For hypertension and coronary artery disease - The doctor will decide and adjust the dose you may need. This could be 2, 4 or 8 mg once daily.

For heart failure, the recommended dose is 2 to 4 mg once daily.

Swallow the tablet with water, preferably in the morning before a meal. Continue taking your medicine as long as your doctor tells you. Coversyl helps control your condition but can’t cure it. It is important to keep taking medicine even if you feel well.
