Rasalect 1 mg is used mainly as a standalone medication or other medications to treat movement disorders caused by Parkinson’s disease. It may also be prescribed for conditions not mentioned over here. Rasagiline, the active substance, is a monoamine Oxidase-B (MAO-B) inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of certain crucial substances in the brain (neurotransmitters– dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin) that are important for several processes in the body. The drug has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic activities. The medicine is thought to work by inhibiting enzyme complex prostaglandin synthetase, thus reducing prostaglandins' synthesis from arachidonic acid. This eases the various symptoms of pain and headaches.

The treatment of Parkinson’s disease is associated with elevations of blood pressure. Patients who experience elevated blood pressure while taking the medicine Consumption of certain food should be avoided during the treatment. These include aged cheese that contains a very large amount of tyramine while taking recommended daily doses of this Parkinson's drug. Patients with hepatic insufficiency should contact their health care specialist regarding the correct dosing of the drug. People receiving this Rasagiline mesylate may develop orthostatic hypotension with or without symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, sweating and syncope. Orthostatic and hypotension symptoms may occur more frequently during the initial days of the treatment. Patients should be cautious of standing up rapidly after sitting or lying if they have been in the same position for a prolonged period. Hallucinations or other manifestations of psychotic-like behaviour can occur when taking this antiparkinson drug. Patient already undergoing treatment for psychotic disorder should be aware that many treatments for psychosis may decrease the effectiveness of Rasalect 1 mg.

Some common side effects of Rasalect 1 mg include insomnia, joint pain, dyspepsia, depression, cough, peripheral oedema, influenza or cold-like symptoms, swelling in the extremities, especially lower limbs. The medicine may also cause dizziness and sleepiness, so it is best to avoid driving or involve in activities that require mental focus. Be sure to inform your doctor of your unusual mood changes, hallucinations, an abnormally high sex drive, an urge to gamble, which may prove very harmful. Contact your doctor if they persist for a long time or if you are concerned about them.

Rasagiline dosage may depend on a range of factors like age, sex, drug allergies, or seriousness of the condition, among several other factors. Your doctor will determine your dosage after examining you properly. Remember to follow your doctor’s advice properly for the best results.

Take Rasalect 1 mg medication strictly according to your doctor’s direction or according to the medication label's instructions. Do not alter the dosage unless your doctor advises you to do so. Also, do not take this medication after the prescribed period is over. All medications come with a patient leaflet. Refer to the instructions in them for detailed information on that medication. Rasagiline is usually taken once daily or as directed by your doctor. If you also take another medication for Parkinson’s disease called Levodopa, Rasagiline is only a part of a complete treatment line for Parkinson’s disease that includes dietary restrictions and other medications. Remember always to follow the advice of your doctor in all circumstances. Always store Rasagiline in a cool and dry place. Ask your doctor about the time for which the drug must be taken. Take the tablet every day continuously until your doctor tells you to stop.
