Istavel 100 mg

Sitagliptin is an oral medicine for diabetes. It is marketed as salt of phosphate under various brand names. It is a very effective medicine to control diabetes by controlling the sugar level. It is mostly recommended for type 2 diabetes mellitus alone or in combination with other medicines that cure diabetes. It is not recommended to treat type-1 diabetes. This drug is either sold alone or in combination with metformin or Thiazolidinediones (other anti-hyperglycemic agents).

Understanding the drug

Sitagliptin is an oral anti hyperglycemic or anti-diabetic drug containing DPP-4 inhibitors (dipeptidylpeptidase-4 inhibitors) that lowers the blood sugar level.

How it works?

Sitagliptin works by lowering the high blood glucose (hyperglycemia). These are the drugs that increase the secretion of insulin and suppress the release of glucagon by pancreas. This drives the blood glucose levels to normal levels. As soon as the blood glucose levels become normal, then the increased changes in the insulin and glucagon stops and further prevents the hypoglycemic situation.
