Dicorate ER is an anti-convulsant medication that affects certain body chemicals that causes seizures. It is prescribed for the treatment of various types of seizure disorders.

Some sleep-inducing medications like cold or cough medicines, narcotic pain killers, sleeping pills, anti-depressants or muscle relaxers can add to the sleepiness caused due to Divalproex Sodium. Let your doctor know in advance if you use any of these medicines. Also, inform him if you use any of these potentially interacting (with Divalproex Sodium) medications: Topiramate, a blood thinner such as warfarin, tolbutamide, aspirin or acetaminophen, clozapine, diazepam, ethosuximide, meropenem, or rifampin.

Share the list of all present medications you may use with your doctor.

Things to remember:

   — Divalproex Sodium usage may lead to suicidal thoughts. You must notify your doctor about any new or deteriorating symptoms like mood or behavior changes, depression, anxiety, suicidal or self-hurting thoughts, increased agitation, hostility, restlessness, or hyperactivity (mentally or physically).

   — Also, avoid alcohol consumption as alcohol increases the risk of side effects of Divalproex Sodium. Grapefruit and its products are also not recommended

   — Always store Divalproex Sodium medication in a cool and dry place, away from heat and moisture. Ensure that children or pets do not have access to this medication

Do not take Decorate ER if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from any pre-medical condition or have a medicinal course.

Decorate ER is known to cause life-threatening liver failure in rare cases, especially in children younger than 2 years of age. Children of that age maybe even at a higher risk for liver problems if they take more than one seizure medication, if they have a metabolic disorder, or if they have a brain disease causing mental impairment (Huntington's disease, Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease, multiple sclerosis, or a brain injury or infection). In rare cases, Divalproex Sodium is also reported to have caused life-threatening pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). Pancreatitis can occur suddenly, and you may see symptoms even after taking this medication for several years.

You must get emergency medical attention if you experience nausea, vomiting, upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, low fever, clay-coloured stools, or jaundice while taking Divalproex sodium. These may be initial symptoms of liver damage or pancreatitis.

The ER or Extended-release tablets are for once-a-day oral administration to be taken strictly according to the doctor's direction. Do not alter the dosage unless he advises you to do so. He may occasionally change the dosage over several weeks or months to ensure proper treatment. Follow your doctor's directions properly. Also, do not take this medication after the prescribed period is over.

Avoid crushing, breaking, or chewing a Divalproex extended-release (ER) tablet, as doing so may lead to too much of the medicine being released at once. Instead, swallow it whole. You must ensure to drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication. Always store Divalproex Sodium anti-convulsant medication in a cool and dry place.

Do not suddenly stop taking Decorate ER medication without your doctor's advice, even if you feel alright. If you suddenly stop this medication, your condition may worsen with increased seizures.
