Atorva 5 mg is a prescription drug that lowers cholesterol in your bloodstream. It lowers low-density lipoprotein (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides in your blood. It can elevate your high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol) as well. Atorva is effective for adults and children over ten years of age whose cholesterol does not come down enough with a low-fat diet and exercise alone. The active ingredient of the medicine, Atorvastatin, can lower the risk of heart attack, certain types of heart surgery, stroke, and chest pain in individuals with risk factors such as heart disease, smoking, age, and high blood pressure. Atorva can lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients with diabetes mellitus and risk factors such as kidney problems, high blood pressure, eye problems, and smoking.

Atorvastatin begins to work within two weeks. Cholesterol and triglycerides are naturally made in your body and found in certain foods. One needs to have some cholesterol for a healthy body, but too much of these two can clog blood vessels. Therefore, it is important to reduce your cholesterol levels if you have heart disease, smoke, diabetes, hypertension, are older, or if a heart problem begins early in your family.

Do not take Atorva if you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant. Atorvastatin may harm your unborn baby. If you get pregnant in between the treatment, call your doctor right away. Void taking medicine if you are breastfeeding. Atorva can pass into the breast milk and may harm your baby. You should not take Atorva tablets if you have liver problems or are allergic to Atorvastatin.

The cholesterol-lowering drug has not been studied in children under ten.

Before you start receiving the cholesterol-lowering drug, tell your doctor if you have diabetes, thyroid problems, kidney impairment, muscle aches, or drink more than two glasses of alcohol per day.

Some medicines should not be used taken with Atorva 5 mg. Inform your doctor about all your medicines, including prescription, and non-prescription, vitamins, minerals, and herbal products. Atorvastatin and certain other medicines can interact and cause serious side effects. Especially inform your doctor if you take medicines for infections, heart failure, cholesterol, HIV or AIDs, birth control, and heart failure.

Atorva 5 mg can cause serious side effects. These serious side effects usually go away if your dose is lowered or the treatment is stopped. These serious side effects include muscle problems and liver problems. Other possible side effects of Atorva 5 mg include headache, allergic reactions, nausea, constipation, wind, indigestion, diarrhoea, joint pain, back pain, muscle pain, inflammation of the nasal passages, pain in the throat, and nose bleeding. Talk to your doctor about side effects that bother you or will not disappear. Ask your doctor about the complete list of the medicine.

Take Atorva 5 mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change your dose or discontinue treatment without talking to your doctor. You may have regular blood tests to check your cholesterol levels during the treatment with Atorvastatin. Your dose may be changed based on the results of blood tests. Atorva 5 mg is available in tablets that you can take before or after consuming food. Please don’t break the pill before taking it. If you cannot swallow the pill, please talk to your doctor.
