Glynase XL 5 mg contains Glipizide; a sulfonylurea indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It should be a part of a treatment program that includes diet and regular exercise to improve glycaemic control. The antidiabetic agent is not for treating type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Do not use Glynase XL if any of the following applies to you:

 

   — You have a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis

   — Have you ever had an allergic reaction to Glipizide or any other ingredients in Glynase extended-release tablet.

 

Before you take the Glynase XL table, inform your doctor if you have:

 

   — Kidney or liver disorder

   — Diabetic ketoacidosis

   — Chronic diarrhoea

   — Blockage or narrowing of intestines due to a health condition or past surgery

   — Pregnant or planning to conceive. It is still not known if the medicine will harm your unborn baby. If you are pregnant, please talk to your doctor about the best way to control your blood sugar during pregnancy. You must strictly avoid taking Glynase extended-release tablets during the last month of pregnancy.

   — Are breastfeeding. However, whether the antidiabetic agent passes into your breast milk is unknown. You and your doctor will decide if you will take this glipizide formulation or breastfeed. You should not do both at the same time.

 

Let your doctor know about all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, including herbal medicines. Glynase XL may affect the way other medicines work, or other medicines may affect the mechanism of action of Glipizide.

 

Do not drink alcohol while taking Glynase extended-release tablet. It can increase your chances of getting serious side effects. Avoid driving, operating machinery,  or doing dangerous activities until you know how to use the glipizide extended-release tablet.  

The most common side effects of Glynase XL include diarrhoea, nervousness, diarrhoea, tremor and gas.

 

Glynase can cause serious side effects, including low blood sugar. Signs and symptoms of low blood sugar may include dizziness, trembling, blurred vision, shakiness, unusual sweating, slurred speech, hunger, tingling in the lips and hands, weakness, a fast heartbeat, and a cold, clammy feeling. Call your doctor if you develop signs and symptoms of low blood sugar that do not go up.  

 

These are not the possible side effects of Glynase XL. For more information, please ask your doctor.  

Take Glynase XL exactly as your doctor tells you to take it. Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to take and when to take it. Take it orally once daily with breakfast or your first meal of the day. Glynase is available as an extended-release tablet that lasts over 24 hours. This is why you need to take it only one time each day. Swallow the pill without chewing, crushing, or breaking the tablet.
