About the drug:

Azathioprine is the main active pharmaceutical ingredient present in Imuran Tablets. Azathioprine is an immunosuppressive antimetabolite, which is used to suppress the immune system.It is used to treat patients who have undergone kidney transplantation and for diseases in which modifying the activity of the immune system is important.

Uses of the drug:                 

Azathioprine is used with other medications to prevent rejection of a kidney transplant and a variety of long-term inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such assystemic lupus erythematosus, and Crohn's disease.Azathioprine is also used to treat patients with severe rheumatoid arthritis ( a condition in which the body attacks its own joints, causing pain, swelling, and loss of function) when other medications and treatments have not helpe

This drug consists of Azathioprine. This drug is in a class of medications called immunosuppressants. It works by decreasing the activity of the body's immune system so it will not attack the transplanted organ or the joints.

Before you take the drug:

Do not take the drug if you:

  • Are allergic to this active ingredient Azathioprine or any other ingredient of the medicine
  • Have rheumatoid arthritis
  • Are pregnant or planning to be pregnant in the near future

How much to take the drug?

How to take the drug?
