About the drug:
Cisplatin, is a platinum-based chemotherapy drug used to treat various types of cancers, including sarcomas, some carcinomas (e.g. small cell lung cancer, and ovarian cancer), lymphomas, and germ cell tumors. It was the first member of a class of anti-cancer drugs which now also includes carboplatin and oxaliplatin. These platinum complexes react in vivo, binding to and causing crosslinking of DNA which ultimately triggers apoptosis (programmed cell death).
Uses of the drug:
Cisplatin is used to treat various types of cancer. It is a chemotherapy drug that actively contains platinum. It is used alone or in combination with other medications to slow or stop cancer cell growth.
Working of the drug:
Cisplatin works by treating cancer of the testes ovaries or bladder. kemplat (50 mg / 50 ml) may be used alone or in combination with other medications. It may possibly also be used for other conditions as determined by your health care provider. It is an antineoplastic agent. It mechanism by stopping cancer cells from growing and reproducing.
It is used to treat testicular, ovarian, bladder, head and neck, esophageal, small and non-small cell lung, breast, cervical, stomach and prostate cancers. Also to treat Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, neuroblastoma, sarcomas, multiple myeloma, melanoma, and mesothelioma.

Before taking the drug:
Patients should not take this without their health care provider advice especially with severe renal or auditory disorder, known hypersensitivity, severe bone marrow suppression, pregnancy, peripheral neuropathy, lactation.
How much to take the drug?
Adult: IV Metastatic ovarian cancer As monotherapy: 100 mg/ 2 per cycle, given as a single dose once every 4 week. For combination therapy w/ cyclophosphamide: 75-100 mg/m2 on day 1 of every 4-wk cycle. Metastatic testicular tumours 20 mg/m2/day for 5 days per cycle. Advanced bladder cancer 50-70 mg/m2 per cycle once every 3-4 week.
How to take the drug:
This medication is usually given by injection into a (iv) vein by your health care specialist. The dosage is based on your medical condition, body size, body weight, and response to therapy. Courses of kemoplast treatment should not be given more often than once every three to four weeks. Consult your health care specialist for more details.
If overdose is suspected, contact the poison control centre or emergency room/hospital right away.
If you miss the dose, take it as quickly as you memorize, but if its too late, then skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the correct prescribed time. Never take 2 doses at once.

Drug therapy is used to prevent or relieve nausea and vomiting. Not eating before your treatment may help relieve vomiting. Changes in diet such as eating several small meals or limiting activity may help lessen some of these effects. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your prescriber promptly.
Temporary hair loss may occur. Normal hair development should return after treatment has ended.

Some products that may interact with this drug are: aminoglycoside antibiotics (e.g., gentamicin, neomycin), amphotericin B, anti-seizure medications (e.g., phenytoin), certain "water pills" (loop diuretics such as furosemide, bumetanide), analidixic acid, and pyridoxine.
