Qutipin 50 contains quetiapine widely used antipsychotic drug, which is effective in treating schizophrenia and bipolar mania.

  • Schizophrenia - It is a severe mental disorder characterized by unusual behaviours such as hallucinations, false perceptions, or bizarre beliefs. Patients who have this mental condition cannot recognize between reality and imaginative events.
  • Bipolar mania - Bipolar disorder or manic or depressive illness is a brain disorder characterized by changes in mood/behaviour, making it difficult for the person to function. The condition usually begins in adolescence or early adulthood, although it can also affect children and older adults.

Whether the medicine is safe and effective in children under 10 years of age is unknown.    

Do not drive or operate machinery or engage in other dangerous activities until you know how quetiapine affects you. Avoid getting dehydrated, do not exercise or stay out of the sun, or drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Qutipin. This may make some of the side effects of quetiapine worse. 

Before taking Qutipin 50, tell your doctor if you have or have ever had diabetes, heart problems, cataracts, seizures, liver problems, abnormal thyroid tests, high prolactin levels, low white blood cell count, or low or high blood pressure.

You should also inform your doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding.  

The following may interact with quetiapine:

  • Medicines to treat high blood pressure such as diltiazem, verapamil
  • Antiseizure drugs such as phenytoin, divalproex, carbamazepine
  • Medicines to treat infections such as clarithromycin, erythromycin
  • ketoconazole for fungal infections
  • Rifampin for tuberculosis
  • Medicines used to treat depression such as nefazodone
  • Medicines to treat psychosis such as thioridazine

Weight gain has been seen in patients receiving this antipsychotic drug. Your doctor may keep a close eye on your weight. Qutipin is not for children and adolescents below 18 years of age. 


If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice before taking this antipsychotic drug.

The most common side effects of quetiapine in adults include sore throat, abdominal pain, dry mouth, constipation, difficulty moving, weakness, and dizziness. Some side effects are only seen when a blood test is performed. These include changes in the number of certain fats or sugar in the blood, increased liver enzymes, decreased amount of red blood cells, changes in the amount of thyroid hormones in the blood, or decreased sodium in the blood. Rarely, an increase in the hormone prolactin could lead to the following condition:


  • Women to have absence of menstrual cycle
  • Men and women have swelling of the breasts and sometimes produce breast milk.

Take Qutipin 50 mg exactly as your doctor tells you to take it. Do not change your dosing regimen without your doctor’s consent. Take the antipsychotic drug before; or after consuming food. If you need to discontinue treatment, please talk to your doctor first. If you suddenly stop the treatment, you may have side effects such as nausea, vomiting, trouble staying asleep. If you miss a dose, take it when you remember. Be careful how much alcohol you drink during the treatment. This is because concomitant use can make you feel sleepy. Also, do not drink grapefruit juice while you take quetiapine. It can affect the way how your antipsychotic drug.  


If you accidentally take more Qutipin tablets than prescribed, you may feel dizzy, sleepy, or experience abnormal heartbeats. Contact your doctor immediately if your condition becomes worse.


If you forget to take a dose of your antipsychotic drug, take it as soon as you remember.
