Glypride 4 mg is an oral blood-glucose-lowering drug of the sulfonylurea class. Glypride 4 mg contains Glimepiride as the active ingredient; the medicine is administered orally. Glypride is a prescription treatment for patients with type 2 diabetes. Antidiabetic medicine is prescribed as an addition to proper dietary management, exercise, and weight reduction to lower the blood sugar in patients with Type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar can't be controlled by diet and exercise alone. To properly control your diabetes, following the diet, exercise, and weight loss program recommended by your doctor is important. Regular monitoring of sugar should be done according to your doctor's recommendations.

A Glimepiride formulation is often prescribed in combination with metformin when diet and exercise, and Glimepiride or metformin alone do not result in adequate control of blood sugar levels. It is also prescribed for use in combination with insulin to lower blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes. Elevated blood sugar can't be controlled by diet and exercise in combination with a drug used to lower blood sugar levels.

Glypride 4 mg should not be given to patients:

   — Hypersensitive to Glimepiride, other sulphonamides, sulfonylureas, or any medicine ingredients.

   — Diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma. This problem should be treated with insulin.

   — Type 1 diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

   — Pregnant women

   — Breast-feeding women

The administration of Glypride should be cautiously done in patients with severe impairment of liver function and dialysis patients.

Glypride may cause a significant drop in blood pressure. Make sure you know what to do if your blood sugar level gets too low.

As with any medication, Glypride 4 mg is associated with some side effects. It may, however, affect different people in different ways. Just people side effects have occurred in other people does not mean you will experience them. If you have problems with these side effects, speak to your doctor:

Dizziness, weight gain, hair loss, mild nausea or vomiting, abnormal taste in the mouth, and low blood sugar.

Call your doctor right away if you have any of these side effects:

   — Unusual bleeding or bruising

   — Unexplained fever, chills, or sore throat

   — Skin rash or hives

   — Oedema, swelling of the legs, or unexpected weight gain

   — Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark-coloured urine

Discontinue treatment and seek immediate medical help if you have the following:

   — Severe allergic reaction. The symptoms include swelling throat, tongue, and lips and difficulty breathing or swallowing.

This is not the complete list of side effects of Glypride 4 mg. For any unwanted effects while taking this antidiabetic agent, contact your doctor.

Due to prolonged release formulation, Glypride 4 mg must be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. The tablet is usually taken once daily, with breakfast or the day's first meal. It must be swallowed with enough water. Your doctor will advise you on how much to take and how often. For best results, follow your doctor's instructions.
