Combutol 200 mg is combined with other antituberculosis agents to treat all forms of tuberculosis caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. It contains the active ingredient Combutol, used to treat infections caused by atypical bacteria, such as mycobacterium avium complex. It stops the growth of infection-causing bacteria and helps in treating the infection. Your symptoms may improve before the completion of the entire course of treatment. So, please do not stop taking it without speaking to your doctor, as doing this may cause the infection to worsen or return. Stick to your doctor’s advice carefully to get maximum benefit.
Combutol 200 mg is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ethambutol or excipients. Inform your doctor if you have pre-existing conditions like diabetes, as it can increase the sugar level in your bloodstream. Diabetic patients should monitor blood sugar levels regularly. The eyes, thyroid, and liver functions should be closely monitored during the treatment. So, before using Combutol tablets, it is important to let your doctor know if you have eye problems (like cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, optic neuritis) or kidney or liver disease. You should immediately discontinue treatment if you develop vision problems like colour blindness, blurred vision, or kidney problems like decreased urine and swelling of your legs and feet. You may experience nausea, vomiting, and yellowish colour of the skin and eyes. Notice such symptoms and consult your doctor immediately. Combutol is safe to use during pregnancy when advised by your doctor.
Common side effects of Combutol 200 mg are visual disturbances due to optic neuritis. The frequency depends on the dose and duration of therapy.
Typical initial signs include impaired colour vision and constriction of the visual field. However, these changes are reversible upon discontinuation of therapy. Consult your doctor if you get any side effects that become bothersome or persist for longer.
Combutol 200 mg tablet is usually given and taken with at least one other tuberculosis medicine. Do not discontinue treatment without consulting your doctor, as doing this may worsen the infection. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to achieve maximum benefits. Note- Discontinuing its use on your own can result in treatment failure and the development of drug-resistant tuberculosis, which can lead to serious health complications.
