Geftinat 250mg

Do not take Geftinat 250 mg if you are allergic to Gefitinib or any of the ingredients of the medicine.  

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also avoid taking Geftinat.   

Speak to your doctor before taking this anticancer drug:

  — If you have ever had problems with your liver

  — If you have had any other lung problems. Some lung conditions may get worse during treatment with Geftinat.

This anticancer medication is not indicated in children and adolescents under 18.

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs:

  — Rifampicin for tuberculosis

  — Itraconazole for fungal infection

  — Phenytoin ad Carbamazepine for epilepsy

  — Barbiturates for sleeping problems

  — H2antagonsists, proton pump inhibitors, and antacids for ulcers, indigestion, and heartburn and to reduce acids in the stomach

  — Herbal remedies containing St.John’s wort are used for anxiety and depression.

Warfarin may also affect the way Geftinat works.

If any of the above applies to you, or if you are unsure, please check with your doctor before taking the anticancer drug.  

Speak to your doctor before taking medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should avoid becoming pregnant during treatment with Geftinat because this anticancer drug could harm your baby.

You may feel weak while taking this anticancer medication. If this happens, avoid driving or indulging in activities that require your attention. 

Common side effects of Geftinat 250 include dry mouth, nail problems, hair loss, fever, bleeding, itchy eyes, protein in your urine, cystitis, red and sore eyelids, loss of appetite, weakness, diarrhoea, vomiting, and skin reactions. If you get any side effects, speak to your doctor. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this information guide.   

Always take Geftinat 250 mg exactly as your doctor has told you. Speak to your doctor if you have any doubts about using the medicine. The recommended dose is one 250 mg tablet per day. You can take the tablet before or after consuming food. Avoid taking antacids two hours before or one hour after taking Gefitinib. It is not known if Geftinat is safe and effective in children. Your doctor may change your dose, temporarily stop, or permanently stop treatment with Gefitinib if you have side effects.

If you have trouble swallowing the tablet, dissolve it in half a glass of water. Do not crush the pill. Swirl the water until the tablet has completely dissolved. This procedure may take up to 20 minutes. Drink the solution straight away. To ensure you have drunk all the medicine, wash the glass with half a glass of water and drink it.
