Pravastatin might not suit everyone, and it is important to tell your doctor if you have a history of an allergic reaction to pravastatin or any other statin, have liver problems, kidney disorders, an underactive thyroid, or have severe lung disease. Some medicines may interfere with the way this statin medication works and increase the chance of having side effects such as muscle damage. Drugs that may not mix well with Pravastatin include antibiotics, antifungals, hepatitis C medicines, HIV medications, medicine for gout, and drugs to treat psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. For safety purpose, tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines including vitamins, herbal remedies, and supplements.

Pravastatin is usually safe and well-tolerated. However, the statin drug may affect some people and cause unwanted effects. You must talk to your doctor if side effects associated with Pravastatin bothers you and do not go away. Rare but serious side effects occur with the use of Pravastatin 10 mg include muscle aches and pains. You may develop muscle pain a few weeks or months after you first start taking pravastatin tablet. Be sure to report any unexplained muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness to your doctor. Memory loss may also develop in some patients. This usually disappears on discontinuation of treatment.

Take Pravastatin 10 mg once a day. You may take the tablet in the evening with a glass full of water. The statin medication does affect the metabolism, so you may take it before or after consuming food. Usually, the dosage depends on the cholesterol levels and other medicines that you have been using to lower blood cholesterol. Ask your doctor if you are not sure how much to take to lower cholesterol. Do not reduce your dose without discussing with your doctor. Your doctor may increase or decrease the dose as per your condition. For children, your doctor will prescribe the right dose for your child based on his/her age.
