Ramistar H 5/12.5 mg is used to treat mild to moderate hypertension in patients in whom combination therapy is appropriate. It combines two medicines, Ramipril and hydrochlorothiazide. Rampiril belongs to a class of medicines known as ACE inhibitors, which are generally most effective when treating high blood pressure. The class of drugs has the advantage of good tolerability and no adverse metabolic effects. Also, no clinically relevant electrolyte effects other than a tendency to increase serum potassium concentrations in some patients with kidney impairment. Restricting the Angiotensin-converting enzyme (an enzyme responsible for causing constriction of blood vessels) improves blood flow around the body.
Thiazide diuretics, such as hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), has been first line antihypertensive agents for decades. Acting directly on the kidney, they improve renal excretion of salt and chloride. They may ultimately produce a long-term decrease in vascular resistance (resistance that must be managed to push blood through the circulatory system and allow blood flow). Furthermore, patients who are unresponsive to the usual dosage do not benefit from the higher dosage and are more likely to produce adverse reactions. Ramistar H is contraindicated in patients allergic to Ramipril, HCTZ or any of its ingredients. Do not use this drug in patients taking certain other medicines for erectile dysfunction, such as tadalafil, sildenafil, and vardenafil. Concomitant use can cause myocardial ischemia and severe hypotension.
Before taking Ramistar H, make sure your doctor knows if you suffer/have:
— Low blood pressure
— Thyroid problems
— Liver, kidney, or heart condition
— Recently suffered a heart attack
— Poor nutrition
— Glaucoma
— Anaemia
If you take other medicines, including those you take without a prescription, vitamins, or herbal supplements. If you are taking any products that help to treat erectile dysfunction
During pregnancy, the combination medicine should only be used when prescribed by your doctor. It is unknown whether the medication passes into breast milk. Speak to your doctor before breastfeeding.
Ramistart H 5/12.5 mg is known to have severe complications, and some of them are dizziness, frequent chills, body pain, skin problems, skin oedema, diarrhoea or constipation, nausea, fever, breathing difficulties, weight gain or weight loss, loss of appetite, allergic outburst, headache, cough, and cold. Please talk to your doctor if these become troublesome or persist for longer.

Your blood pressure medicine is available in the form of a tablet, and this makes it easier to be consumed orally with a sufficient amount of water. Swallow this medicine with water. Do not chew it.
