Zipsydon 20 mg is a prescription medicine for patients with certain mental/mood disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder). It helps to decrease hallucinations and allows you to think more clearly and positively about yourself, feel less agitated, and take a more active part in daily life. The medicine contains the active ingredient Ziprasidone, which belongs to a class of medications known as atypical antipsychotics. The class of drugs helps to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain. Only your doctor can know if Zipsydon is appropriate for you. Ziprasidone may be prescribed for you if you have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.  

Patients who have schizophrenia include:

   — Delusions (beliefs that are not true)

   — Paranoia

   — Hallucinations

   — Becoming withdrawn from family and friends

 

Symptoms of manic or mixed episodes of bipolar disorder may include:

   — Easily distracted

   — Extremely high or irritable mood

   — Little need for sleep

   — Racing thoughts or talking very fast

   — Increased energy, activity, and restlessness

 

If you continue to take this psychotropic drug, there is less chance of your symptoms returning. Do not discontinue treatment even when you feel better without discussing it with your doctor. It is also important to note that Zipsydon capsules should be taken with food.       

Elderly patients with a diagnosis of psychosis related to dementia. Ziprasidone 20 mg is not clinically tested for the treatment of these patients. Anything that increases the chance of abnormality related to heart rhythm should be avoided. Therefore, do not take Zipsydon if:

 

   — You have certain heart disorders, for example- a recent heart attack, long QT syndrome, severe heart failure, or certain irregularities

 

   — You are currently taking medicines that should not be consumed in combination with Zipsydon, for example, sotalol, dofetilide, quinidine,  thioridazine,  mesoridazine, pimozide, moxifloxacin, mefloquine, levomethadyl acetate, sparfloxacin, halofantrine, pentamidine, dolasetron mesylate chlorpromazine or tacrolimus.     

Because these problems could mean you have a heart rhythm abnormality, contact your doctor right away if you:

 

  • Feel a change in the way that your heart beats (palpitations)
  • Faint or lose consciousness

 

Common side effects of Ziprasidone include the following and should be discussed with the doctor if they develop:

 

  • Rash
  • Diarrhoea
  • Feeling unusually tired or sleepy
  • Increased cough/runny nose
  • Restlessness
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Constipation
  • Abnormal muscle movement, including shuffling, tremors, and uncontrolled involuntary movements

 

If you develop any of these side effects become troublesome, speak to your doctor. It is especially important to tell your doctor if you have vomiting, diarrhoea, or another illness that can cause you to lose fluids. Your doctor may want to conduct a blood test if you have the right amount of essential salts after such an illness.   

Take Zipsydon capsules only as directed by your doctor. Swallow the capsules whole with a glass full of water. Do not break, crush, or open the capsules. Take medicine with food. Ziprasidone may take a few weeks to work, so you need patience. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without your doctor’s approval. Keep taking the capsules even when you feel better.
