Brimosun P 0.15% is an ophthalmic solution for lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It contains the active ingredient Brimonidine, which reduces the production of aqueous humour (the fluid in the eye) within the eyeball. It effectively reduces pressure in the eye with glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Brimonidine may be used concomitantly with other topical drugs to lower intraocular pressure.
Brimsosun P is contraindicated in neonates and infants under the age of two years. The ophthalmic solution is contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity reaction to any medicine component.
Do not use Brimonidine solution:
— If you are allergic to Brimonidine or any other ingredients of the medicine
— If you are taking monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors medicine or tricyclic antidepressants medicine
— If newborn babies or children under two years
— If you are breast-feeding
Common side effects of Brimosun P include:
— Inflammation of the eye, which covers the surface of the eye
— Symptoms involving the stomach and indigestion
— Dizziness, general weakness, feeling or being sick
— Cold like symptoms
— Abnormal taste
— Erosion on the surface of the eye and staining, abnormal vision, swollen eyelid, watery eyes, pain, sensitivity to light
— Headache, tiredness, dry mouth and drowsiness
— An allergic reaction in the eye causes stinging, burning, or white spots on the membrane covering the inside of the eyelid, blurred vision, itching, and feeling of something in the eye.
Always use Brimosun P exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Check with your doctor if you are not sure about the dosing regimen.
The recommended dose is one drop of Brimosun P drops in the affected eye twice daily, approximately twelve hours apart. If more than one topical ophthalmic solution is to be used, other eye drops should not be used within five to ten minutes of using this ophthalmic solution. To minimize systematic absorption of the eye solution, apply pressure to the tear duct immediately following administration.
Use in children
The ophthalmic solution must not be used in infants under two years of age. It is not recommended for children between 2 to 12 years of age.
Instructions for use:
— Wash your hands
— Do not touch the eye with the tip of the bottle
— If you wear contact lenses, please remove them before using the ophthalmic solution and wait for at least fifteen minutes before inserting them.
— When applying the eye drops, tilt your head back and look at the ceiling
— Hold the bottle upside down above the eye and gently squeeze the bottle to release a drop of ophthalmic solution into the eye
— Keep the eye closed and press your fingertips against the inside corner of the eye and hold for a minute.
— Repeat the process for another eye (if infected)
Be sure not to touch the tip of the bottle on the eye or the surrounding surface. Ophthalmic solutions, if handled wrongly, can become contaminated by common bacteria and cause eye infections. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop any other eye condition while using the product.
What is Brimonidine and what is it used for?
Brimonidine is an eye drop medicine used to lower pressure inside the eye, particularly for people with glaucoma or high eye pressure. Glaucoma happens when pressure builds up in your eye and can damage the nerve that sends images to your brain, eventually causing vision loss if left untreated. Brimosun P 0.15% contains brimonidine and helps protect your sight by reducing this pressure. It's applied directly into the eye, usually two or three times daily, to keep the pressure at a safe level and prevent damage to your vision over time.
How does Brimonidine actually work in the body?
Brimonidine works by doing two things inside your eye to lower pressure. First, it slows down how much fluid your eye makes naturally. Second, it helps the fluid that's already in your eye drain out more easily through the eye's natural drainage system. By reducing the amount of fluid and helping it leave the eye faster, the pressure inside drops to a healthier level. Think of it like turning down a running tap while also opening the drain wider—both actions together reduce the water level in the sink.
How long does Brimosun P 0.15% take to start working?
Brimosun P 0.15% typically starts lowering eye pressure within two hours after you put the drops in, with the strongest effect happening around two to three hours later. The pressure-lowering effect usually lasts for about twelve hours, which is why most people use it twice or three times daily. You won't feel anything different when it starts working since high eye pressure doesn't usually cause pain or obvious symptoms. Your eye doctor will measure your eye pressure during follow-up visits to confirm the drops are working effectively for you.
When and how should I take Brimosun P 0.15%?
Use Brimosun P 0.15% exactly as your doctor prescribes, usually two or three times daily with roughly equal spacing between doses. Wash your hands first, tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid gently, and squeeze one drop into the pocket formed. Close your eye for a minute or two and press lightly on the inner corner near your nose to stop the medicine draining away. If you use other eye drops, wait at least five minutes between different medicines. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions, as they've tailored the schedule to your individual needs.
What should I do if I forget to take a dose of Brimosun P 0.15%?
If you miss a dose of Brimosun P 0.15%, put the drop in as soon as you remember, unless it's nearly time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, just skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Don't use two drops at once or put in extra drops to make up for the one you forgot—this won't help and might cause unwanted side effects. Try setting a phone reminder or keeping your drops somewhere visible to help you remember your daily schedule and maintain consistent eye pressure control.
Is it safe to take Brimosun P 0.15% for a long time?
Yes, many people use brimonidine eye drops like Brimosun P 0.15% safely for months or even years to manage ongoing high eye pressure. Glaucoma and elevated eye pressure are typically long-term conditions that need continuous treatment to protect your vision. Your doctor will schedule regular check-ups to monitor your eye pressure, check how well the drops are working, and watch for any changes or side effects. These routine visits ensure the medicine continues working properly for you. Always attend your scheduled appointments and report any new symptoms or concerns to your doctor promptly.
Can I take Brimosun P 0.15% with other medicines I am already on?
Brimosun P 0.15% can interact with certain medicines, particularly those affecting blood pressure, heart rate, or mood. Tell your doctor about everything you take, including blood pressure pills, antidepressants, sleeping tablets, and other eye drops. Some combinations might make you feel dizzy, drowsy, or affect how well either medicine works. Your doctor can adjust doses or timing to avoid problems. It's also important to mention any herbal supplements or over-the-counter medicines you use regularly. Keeping your doctor informed helps ensure all your treatments work together safely and effectively.
How is Brimosun P 0.15% different from similar medicines used for the same condition?
Brimosun P 0.15% belongs to a class of eye drops that work by reducing fluid production and improving drainage, unlike some other glaucoma medicines that only do one or the other. Compared to older drops like timolol, brimonidine doesn't affect breathing or heart rate as much, making it suitable for more people. Some patients find brimonidine causes less stinging than prostaglandin drops, though it may cause more drowsiness initially. Your doctor chooses which medicine suits you based on your specific eye pressure levels, other health conditions, and how you respond to treatment.
Is the generic version containing Brimonidine just as good as the branded medicine?
Yes, generic brimonidine eye drops like Brimosun P 0.15% contain the same active ingredient in the same strength as branded versions and work just as effectively to lower eye pressure. All approved generic medicines must meet strict quality standards and prove they work the same way in your body as the original branded product. The main differences are usually the manufacturer, packaging, and price—generics typically cost less while delivering the same therapeutic benefits. Many doctors prescribe generics routinely because they provide excellent value without compromising on quality or effectiveness for glaucoma management.
What side effects can Brimonidine cause?
Brimonidine commonly causes redness, burning, or stinging in the eye right after putting the drops in, along with blurred vision that usually clears quickly. Some people feel drowsy, tired, or get a dry mouth, especially when first starting treatment. Your eyes might feel dry or itchy, and headaches can occur. Less commonly, you might notice a strange taste in your mouth or feel dizzy. Serious side effects are rare but include severe allergic reactions, very low blood pressure, or slow heartbeat. Most side effects are mild and improve as your body adjusts to the medicine over a few days.
Who should NOT take Brimonidine or needs to be extra careful with it?
Brimonidine should not be used by babies or young children under two years old, as it can cause serious breathing and nervous system problems. People taking certain antidepressants called MAO inhibitors should avoid it. Be extra careful if you have low blood pressure, heart problems, circulation issues, depression, or kidney or liver disease. If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. People who wear soft contact lenses need to remove them before using the drops and wait fifteen minutes before putting them back in. Always tell your doctor about your complete medical history.
