Brimodin 5 ml (Brimonidine) is a relatively selective alpha II adrenergic agonist for ophthalmic use. It is prescribed to reduce the pressure in the eye of a patient with ocular hypertension and glaucoma. The drug works by reducing the pressure on the eyeball.

Brimonidine effectively reduces raised intraocular pressure in individuals with chronic open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Its application lower high pressure in the eye and reduces the vision loss risk. It may be used alone or in combination with other eye solution that reduces pressure inside the eye. Brimodin eye drop is meant for external usage only.

The ingredients in the eye drop can interact with other medicines and eye drops; thus, ensure you do not start any medicine while using it. Also, inform your doctor about all the medicines you are using. Especially, tell your doctor about the following medicines:

 

             — CNS depressants

             — Antihypertensive glycosides

             — Monoamine oxidase inhibitors

             — Tricyclic antidepressants

 

To avoid the potential for contamination and eye injury, be careful while using the preparation; do not allow the vial tip to touch your eye. The safety and efficacy of this eye drop solution have not been established in infants; therefore, it should not be used in kids and infants.

Contact your doctor if you experience any unwanted effects while taking the drug. The following are the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine:

 

             — Itching

             — Burning

             — Allergic conjunctivitis

             — Visual disturbance

             — Oral dryness

             — Ocular allergic reaction

             — Eye pruritus

             — Stinging sensation

             — Redness

             — Irritation

 

This is not the complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor if you experience any adverse effect that troubles you.

Instil one drop of Brimonidine eye drops thrice daily in the affected eye, approximately 8 hours apart.

 

The medicine should be applied in the lower eyelid sac without touching the vial tip or the dropper. Do not let your fingers touch the dropper or tube, as this will contaminate the medicine. The medicine should not be used for longer than the recommended period. Use it till the period it is prescribed.
