Gatilox-0.3% eye drop contains Gatifloxacin, which is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that has been prescribed for topical use. It is an anti-infective ophthalmic solution used for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis. Gatifloxacin provides symptomatic relief by stopping the further growth of the causative microorganisms.
Gatilox eye drop should not be used in individuals who have shown hypersensitivity to Gatifloxacin, other quinolones, or any other medicine ingredients. The medicine is not for injection into the eye. Gatifloxacin preparation is for topical use only. This ocular medication with other products may lead to drug interactions. Contact your doctor for more information related to drug interaction. As with other ophthalmic formulations, if blurred vision occurs at installation, then you should wait until the vision clears before indulging in an activity that requires your complete attention. In case of an allergic reaction to Gatifloxacin occurs, discontinue the drug. Serious hypersensitivity reactions may require immediate medical treatment.
The most frequent treatment-related side effects are eye irritation, dry eye. You may also experience eye pain, eye discharge, and superficial punctate keratitis (an eye disease that occurs due to the death of small groups of cells on the surface of the cornea). Patients suffering from superficial punctate keratitis may have red, watery eyes with sensitivity to light. In some cases, vision may be decreased somewhat.
Gatifloxacin-0.3% Eye drop should be administered exactly as directed by your doctor. Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have eye disease or eye infection. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
The recommended dosing regimen for Gatiflox in the treatment of patients year of age and older with bacterial conjunctivitis is given below:
- Day 1 and 2- Instill one drop every two hours in the affected eye while awake up to 8 times a day.
- Days 3 to 7- Instill one drop four times a day in the affected eye while awake.
Contact of the tip of the bottle with the eye or surrounding areas may lead to eye injury and contamination of the ophthalmic preparation.
