Hepbest 25 mg is a tablet containing tenofovir alafenamide for oral administration. It is indicated for the treatment and prevention of HIV. Tenofovir Alafenamide is a nucleoside transcriptase inhibitor or NRTIs that is comparatively free of the adverse bone and renal effects associated with previously formulated tenofovir disoproxil fumarate for HIV treatment. The antiretroviral drug is clinically tested and approved for the treatment of HIV in combination with other medications. The medicine prevents the deadly virus from multiplying in the body by blocking the enzyme called reverse transcriptase. It reduces the amount of HIV in the body. This HIV drug is safe to use if used as per the doctor’s advice. Patients taking this drug should practice safe sex and should not share needles and other personal items as it has not proven to reduce the risk of transferring the deadly virus to others. Hepbest may also be used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV).

The medication comprises of the active ingredient Tenofovir alafenamide, which is developed to improve renal safety when compared to Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. It does not cure the disease, but beneficial in reducing the amount of virus and preventing AIDS. It comes in the form of tablet for oral use. It is also helpful in treating chronic hepatitis B virus or HBV.

What are the dosing instructions?

Hepbest works best when taken with meals or after having food. The recommended dose for HIV patients is 25 mg once daily. Your doctor will decide the duration of the treatment accordingly. It generally depends on the severity of the infection. Patients are required to have regular blood check-ups to monitor the viral load and number of T cells. Consult your doctor if you vomit after taking the tablet.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of this medicine include abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, depression, and vesiculobullous reaction. Other side effects associated with the use of Hepbest are decreased bone mineral density and pneumonia. If you have any of the below conditions, please speak to your doctor before taking this antiviral medication. 


    — History of hepatic impairment: Patients with hepatic insufficiency, who are treated for hepatitis B with antiviral medicines, are more likely to develop severe and potentially fatal liver complications. He may perform blood tests to check how your liver is working.


    — Kidney disease or if tests have shown kidney issues before or during the treatment. Before starting and after treatment, your doctor may perform blood or urine tests to monitor your kidney function.


    — Hepatitis C or D- Tenofovir alafenamide has not been tested on patients who have hepatitis C or D or hepatitis B.


    — Already have HIV: If you are unsure whether you have HIV, your doctor will test you for HIV before prescribing Hepbest for hepatitis B.



Do not give this medicine to children who are under 12 years of age and weigh less than 35 kg. The antiviral drug has not been tested in children under 12 and weighs less than 35 kg.


Common symptoms of Hepbest include itchiness, rash, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, joint pain, dizziness, stomach pain, bloatedness, wind, and tiredness. If any of these side effects get serious, tell your doctor immediately. Also, there is a possibility that you get side effects not listed in this information guide.

The recommended dose is one tablet a day with food. It is best to take Hepbest with food to get the right level of medication in your body.
