Lonitab 10 mg is an orally active antihypertensive drug-containing Minoxidil as the active ingredient. Minoxidil is a member of drug class vasodilators, which works by relaxing blood vessels and improve blood circulation. This helps to reduce blood pressure. The medicine is specially formulated for hypertensive patients who do not respond to maximum therapeutic doses of diuretic (water pill) and a combination of two antihypertensive drugs. For best results, the medicine should be used under the supervision of a doctor usually in combination with a beta-blocker drug to prevent myocardial workload. Your doctor may also prescribe a water pill to prevent serious fluid accumulation.
Regular checks on your blood pressure and general health is necessary while receiving Lonitab 10 mg. Patients with kidney failure and those who are undergoing haemodialysis may need a smaller dose of Lonitab 10 mg. Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including those obtained without a prescription. It is particularly important you tell your doctor about all medicines that you have been using to reduce high blood pressure. Some medicines can interact with Lonitab 10 mg and cause a significant drop in the blood pressure. Let your doctor know if you are using guanethidine or betadine while treatment with Minoxidil. Do not stop the treatment without consulting your doctor. The medicine may make you feel dizzy or faint, particularly from a sitting or a lying position.

Other side effects associated with the use of Lonitab 10 mg include inflammation of the lining that surrounds the heart, increased hair growth, increased heart rate, hair color change, abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG). Some people may also experience fluid retention, compression of the heart due to accumulation of fluid, and build-up of fluid around the heart. If you get any of these side effects that become troublesome, call your doctor straight away.
