Mycobutol 1000 mg is an antibiotic medicine used to treat all forms of tuberculosis (including tuberculosis of the lung, skin, urinary tract, bone and joint, eye, and brain). Mycobutol will not cure any bacterial, fungal, or viral diseases. It contains the active ingredient ethambutol, which destroys the mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria, causing lung infection known as tuberculosis.
Do not take Mycobutol 1000 mg if allergic to Ethambutol or any other ingredient in this medicine. Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction to Ethambutol or any other ingredients in this medicine may include itching or hives on the skin, rash, shortness of breath, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or other parts of the body, wheezing or troubled breathing.
Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have eye problems, as Ethambutol may affect your eyesight. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are taking any other medicines, including medicines you get without a prescription from a drugstore. There may be interference between mycobutol and some other medicines. These drugs may be affected by Ethambutol or may affect how well it works. You may need to take different amounts of medicines, or you need to take different medicines.
Mycobutol 1000 mg may cause allergic reactions, nausea, fever, dizziness, disorientation, mental confusion, possible hallucination, upset stomach, joint pain, loss of appetite, dermatitis, and numbness and tingling in the feet and hands. Ethambutol may aggravate gout. It may have different effects on different people. You should inform your doctor if anything else makes you feel unwell, even if it is not given in this medication guide.
Very few people treated with Ethambutol find that their vision becomes blurred. This effect, however, is generally reversible if the treatment is immediately stopped. If you feel you have had any deterioration in your eyesight since initiating mycobutol, contact your healthcare provider straight away.
Mycobutol 1000 mg will be prescribed with other anti-tuberculosis drugs. The tablet should be taken once every 24 hours before or after consuming food. The dose usually depends on whether you have previously received treatment for tuberculosis.
The dosage depends on your body weight. It can take up to two years with mycobutol to cure you of tuberculosis. You must keep taking the medicine for the full-time treatment. Avoid stop taking it if you start feeling better. Take the tablet with a glass of water. Finish the complete course of treatment, and do not skip doses even if you start feeling good. Continue to take the medicine until your doctor tells you to stop. Discontinuing antibiotics use on your own can cause treatment failure and the development of drug-resistant tuberculosis, which can contribute to serious complications.
