Natrise 30 mg tablet treats low levels of sodium in the bloodstream. It contains the active substance Tolvapatan which effectively treats low sodium levels in the blood, resulting from conditions such as heart failure, liver impairment, and certain hormonal imbalances. Tolvaptan belongs to a class of medications known as vasopressin antagonists. Vasopressin is a hormone that helps prevent fluid loss by reducing urine output. Antagonists mean that it prevents vasopressin hormone from affecting water retention. This causes a significant reduction in water in the body by increasing water loss (urine production). As a result, it increases sodium levels in your bloodstream. Natrise is especially effective in treating low sodium levels in your blood because of a disease called syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH), where the kidneys have too much fluid. This disease is responsible for causing an appropriate production of vasopressin which caused the sodium levels to be too low. That leads to problems in memory, concentration, or keeping in your balance.
Natrise 30 mg should not be given to patients who cannot sense or respond appropriately to thirst. Also, do not take Tolvapatan if any of the following applies to you:
- You are allergic to Tolvapatan or any other ingredients of the medicine
- Your kidneys do not function well
- Increased levels of salts in your body
- You have conditions that are associated with a very low blood volume
- You are pregnant
- You are breast-feeding
Tell your doctor before taking Natrise tablets if you cannot drink enough water, have difficulties in urination, or have liver problems.
Using Natrise 30 mg may cause a few common side effects: dry mouth, constipation, increased thirst, frequent urge to urinate, and increased urge to urinate during the night. Inform your doctor if you have any problems with your liver and kidneys. While receiving Tolvapatan therapy, your doctor will closely monitor sodium levels in your bloodstream. You should also inform your doctor about all the other medicines you are taking.
The recommended starting dose of Natrise is 15 mg once daily. Dosage may be increased to 30 mg once daily as needed to raise serum sodium. You can take the tablet before or after consuming food. Your doctor will decide the dose of this medicine and how often you need to take them. You should take medicine regularly to get the most benefit. Do not discontinue treatment even if you feel better unless the doctor advises you.
