Nintena 150 mg has been launched to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis or IPF (a lung disease characterized by scarring in the lungs). IPF is a chronic progressive form of lung disease which makes lung tissue appear stiff and thick. This interferes with an individual’s ability to breathe and reduce oxygen supply to the blood resulting in breathing issues. Each Nintena soft capsule contains 150 mg of Nintedanib medicine. Your doctor may prescribe Nintedanib capsules for other chronic lung diseases. Talk to your doctor before taking medicine.
Do not take Nintena 150 mg if you are pregnant, allergic to Nintedanib, or any other medicine ingredients. Talk to your doctor if any of the following applies to you:
- have had problems with kidney function
- have had liver problems
- have had bleeding problems
- take blood-thinning medicines
- have had heart problems
- have high blood pressure
- have recently had surgery
- take pirfenidone as this may increase your risk of having diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and liver problems.
Inform your doctor immediately while taking medicine if you get diarrhoea, severe pain in the stomach, nausea pain, major bleeding, or peptic ulcers.
Children and adolescents should not use Nintena capsules under 18 years of age. Let your doctor know if you take any other medicines, including herbal supplements and vitamins. Nintedanib can interact with certain other medicines. These include medicine to treat fungal infections, bacterial infections, or medicine that affects your immune system.
Diarrhea is the most frequent gastrointestinal side effect. In most patients, the side effects seem to be mild to moderate intensity. Diarrhea may lead to dehydration. Drink an adequate amount of water and start appropriate anti-dirrheal treatment as soon as possible under a doctor’s supervision.
Treatment should be initiated by doctors experienced in the management of diseases for which Nintena 150 mg is approved. The recommended dose is 150 mg twice daily, administered approximately 12 hours apart. Patients who do not tolerate the dose should consult their doctor before taking medicine. If diarrhoea, nausea, or vomiting persist, dose reduction or temporary treatment discontinuation should be considered. You are advised to drink plenty of water during the treatment.
What is Nintedanib and what is it used for?
Nintedanib is a medicine used to treat a lung condition called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, where the lung tissue becomes thick and scarred over time, making it harder to breathe. It is also used for certain types of lung disease that happen in people with conditions affecting their connective tissues. Nintena 150 mg contains this active ingredient and helps slow down the scarring process in your lungs. This medicine belongs to a group called tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which work by blocking signals that cause scarring and inflammation in lung tissue.
How does Nintedanib actually work in the body?
Nintedanib works by blocking certain proteins in your body that tell cells to grow and multiply in harmful ways. In lung scarring diseases, these proteins cause your lung tissue to thicken and become stiff. By stopping these signals, Nintena 150 mg helps slow down the damage and scarring in your lungs. Think of it like putting brakes on a process that is making your lungs less flexible. While it cannot reverse scarring that has already happened, it can help prevent new scarring from forming quickly, which helps you breathe more easily over time.
How long does Nintena 150 mg take to start working?
Nintena 150 mg starts working in your body within hours of taking it, but you will not feel an immediate difference. The medicine works gradually to slow down lung scarring, and it may take several weeks or even months before you notice improvements in your breathing or daily activities. Your doctor will monitor your lung function with regular tests to see how well the medicine is working. Many people do not feel dramatic changes but the medicine is still doing its job by preventing your condition from getting worse as quickly as it would without treatment.
When and how should I take Nintena 150 mg?
Take Nintena 150 mg twice a day, about twelve hours apart, with food. Taking it with a meal helps reduce stomach upset, which is a common side effect. Swallow the capsule whole with water and do not open, chew, or crush it. Most people find it easiest to take one dose with breakfast and one with dinner to stay on schedule. Your doctor will decide the right dose for you based on how you respond and any side effects you experience. Always follow your doctor's instructions exactly, and let them know if you have any concerns or unusual symptoms while taking this medicine.
What should I do if I forget to take a dose of Nintena 150 mg?
If you miss a dose of Nintena 150 mg, skip it if your next scheduled dose is less than twelve hours away. Just take your next dose at the regular time and continue with your normal schedule. Do not take two doses at once to make up for the missed one, as this could increase your risk of side effects. If you remember within a few hours of your usual time and your next dose is more than twelve hours away, you can take the missed dose with food. Setting phone reminders or linking your doses to mealtimes can help you remember.
Is it safe to take Nintena 150 mg for a long time?
Nintena 150 mg is designed for long-term use in managing chronic lung scarring conditions, and many people take it safely for years. Your doctor will monitor you regularly with blood tests to check your liver function and other important markers, as the medicine can sometimes affect these over time. Most side effects, if they happen, occur in the first few months and often improve as your body adjusts. Your doctor will weigh the benefits of slowing your lung disease against any side effects you experience. Regular check-ups are important to make sure the medicine continues to work well for you without causing problems.
Can I take Nintena 150 mg with other medicines I am already on?
Nintena 150 mg can interact with some other medicines, so it is important to tell your doctor about everything you take, including over-the-counter medicines and supplements. Some medicines that affect how your liver processes drugs can make nintedanib levels too high or too low in your body. Blood thinners, certain antibiotics, and medicines for fungal infections are examples that may interact. Your doctor may need to adjust doses or choose different medicines to avoid problems. Always check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any new medicine while taking Nintena 150 mg to keep you safe.
How is Nintena 150 mg different from similar medicines used for the same condition?
Nintena 150 mg belongs to a specific type of medicine that blocks multiple growth signals causing lung scarring. Another medicine used for pulmonary fibrosis is pirfenidone, which works differently by reducing substances that cause scarring and inflammation. Some people tolerate one medicine better than the other, and your doctor will choose based on your individual health situation, other medicines you take, and which side effects you are most likely to handle well. Both medicines slow down lung scarring rather than cure it, but they achieve this through different pathways in your body, giving doctors options for treatment.
Is the generic version containing Nintedanib just as good as the branded medicine?
Generic versions of nintedanib contain the same active ingredient in the same strength as the branded version and work exactly the same way in your body. Regulatory authorities require generic medicines to meet the same strict standards for quality, safety, and effectiveness as branded products. The main difference is usually the price, as generics cost less because the manufacturers do not have the same development costs. Nintena 150 mg provides the same therapeutic benefit whether it is branded or generic. Your doctor can help you decide which option is right for you based on availability and cost considerations.
What side effects can Nintedanib cause?
Nintedanib commonly causes diarrhea, which happens in many people taking this medicine. Other frequent side effects include nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, and weight loss. Some people experience liver enzyme changes, so your doctor will monitor this with blood tests. Less common but more serious effects can include liver problems, bleeding issues, blood clots, and a small risk of tears in the stomach or intestine wall. Most people find that side effects are manageable, especially diarrhea, which often improves after the first few weeks or can be controlled with other medicines your doctor may prescribe if needed.
Who should NOT take Nintedanib or needs to be extra careful with it?
Nintedanib should not be used if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as it can harm an unborn baby. Women who can get pregnant should use reliable birth control during treatment and for at least three months after stopping. People with serious liver problems should not take this medicine. If you have a history of bleeding problems, blood clots, recent surgery, or stomach ulcers, your doctor needs to know before prescribing nintedanib. People taking blood thinners or who have heart problems need close monitoring. Always tell your doctor about your complete medical history before starting this treatment.
