Olmezest H 40/12.5mg

Do not take Olmezest if you are:

  — Allergic to Olmesartan or hydrochlorothiazide or any non-medical component of the medication.

  — Allergic to sulfa drugs

  — Have experienced an allergic reaction with swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, tongue, face, lips, throat or tongue or sudden difficulty breathing and swallowing. Have difficulty urinating or produce no urine.

  — Pregnant or intend to become pregnant. Taking Olmezest H during pregnancy can cause injury or even death

  — Breastfeeding, the combination of Olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide passes into breast milk.

  — Taking a blood pressure lowering drug containing aliskiren and having diabetes or kidney disorders.

  — Have hereditary disorders like galactose intolerance, lap lactose deficiency, and glucose-galactose malabsorption.

As with many medicines, interaction with other medicines is possible. Let your doctor know of all the medicines you take, including drugs prescribed by the doctor, minerals, vitamins, natural supplements, or alternative methods.   

The side effects are generally rare and independent of dose. The most common side effect is dizziness. Other side effects include headache, tiredness, oedema, chest pain, and weakness. You may experience other side effects as well. These include:

  — Cough, upper respiratory tract infection

  — Headache, dizziness, pins, needles in your fingers,

  — Bleeding under the skin, red patches on the skin, rash

  — Fatigue, drowsiness, or insomnia

  — Reduced libido

  — Back or leg pain, spasms, weakness, restlessness, muscle cramps, and pain

If these side effects affect you severely, tell your doctor immediately. Make sure you read the prescription carefully that your doctor provides you and tell your doctor if you are bothered by the side effects or if they do not resolve. This way, it may be possible to adjust your dose, and you may get the maximum benefits of the drug.  

Olmezest is available for oral administration in tablets containing 40 mg of olmesartan and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide. Your doctor will determine the starting dose of Olmezest as per your condition. No initial dosage adjustment is recommended for elderly patients with moderate to renal impairment or moderate to severe hepatic dysfunction. The combination drug should be initiated under close medical supervision consideration should be given to using a lower starting dose. Hydrochlorothiazide is effective in doses between 12.5 mg and 50 mg once daily.
