Pilomax 5 mg contains the active constituent Pilocarpine, which acts on the nervous system. It helps in the stimulation of certain nerves and glands in your body. After you take Pilomax, your body will produce more saliva, sweat, tears, and mucus. The medicine is prescribed if you have a dry mouth following cancer radiotherapy of the head or neck and if you have been diagnosed with a condition called Sjogren's syndrome and your mouth and eyes are dry.

Do not take Pilomax tablets if you are allergic to Pilocarpine or any other ingredients in the medicine. Avoid taking medicine if you have uncontrolled asthma, heart or kidney disease, or have any other chronic condition that can worsen because of treatment with a medicinal product that acts like Pilocarpine. Speak to your doctor if you are not sure. The product is contraindicated if you have any disorder in which you are to avoid constriction of the pupil.

 

Inform your doctor before taking Pilocarpine 5 mg if you have any Lung problems (asthma, chronic bronchitis, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), heart problems (irregular pulse, heart failure), stomach problems (ulcers), gallbladder or bile duct problems (gallstones), kidney problems (renal insufficiency, kidney stones), eye disease (open-angle glaucoma), and cognitive problems (difficulties in memory, learning, and problems solving. Your doctor should know if you are taking medications to treat high blood pressure, eye problems, heart problems, diabetes, asthma, and mental disorders.

People taking Pilocarpine may develop common side effects such as sweating, headache, flu-like symptoms, need to pass urine more frequently, runny nose, weakness, chills, watering of the mouth,   flushing, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, watery eyes,  abnormal or blurred vision, swollen eyes, and allergic reaction (rash and itching).

 

Other side effects include breathing, tremor, abdominal spasms, low blood pressure, changes in heartbeat, tremors, and changes in mental state. If you get any side effects, speak to your doctor. This includes any possible effects not mentioned in this information guide.

Pilomax 5 mg is a tablet to take orally with a glass of water after meals. You can take Pilocarpine three times a day to treat dry mouth caused by radiotherapy used to treat head and neck cancer. For treating dry mouth caused due to Sjogren's syndrome, it is usually taken four times a day. Try to take the tablets at evenly spread intervals; for example, take your first pill in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. If no improvement is observed after 2 to 3 months, your doctor may decide to continue treatment. Do not stop taking your medicine unless your doctor instructs you to.
