Pramipex 0.5 mg is a prescription treatment for patients with restless legs syndrome and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It displays antidepressant and anti-Parkinsonian effects. It is used along with other medicines to treat Parkinson’s syndrome.
— In Parkinson’s disease – Pramipexole (main active salt) helps to relieve symptoms of the disease, such as muscle stiffness, tremors, and difficulty moving. The active ingredient of the medicine works by acting in place of dopamine, a natural chemical substance in the brain that is required to control movement. This medicine can improve the quality of life by enhancing the ability to carry out daily activities better.
— In restless leg syndrome - In this condition, an uncontrollable urge to move your legs usually occurs because of an uncomfortable sensation. The condition typically affects the evening or night, especially when sitting or lying down. Moving, walking, or changing the posture will help control the unpleasant feeling for some time. Pramipexole helps you get rid of uncomfortable urges and calms these sensations.
Do not take Pramipex if you are hypersensitive to Pramipexole or any of the inactive ingredients of the medicine. It has not been studied in children. Do not drive, operate a machine, or indulge in activities that need you to be alert until you know how Pramipexole affects you. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medicine. The medication may increase your chance of feeling sleepy or falling asleep when you should be awake.
You should inform your doctor about all your medical conditions, including if you:
— Have kidney disease
— Have trouble controlling your muscles
— Have low blood pressure
— Feel sleepy due to sleep problems other than restless leg syndrome.
— You are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if the medicine will cause harm to your unborn baby.
— Breastfeeding. You should discuss this with your healthcare provider if it is safe to breastfeed and take medicine simultaneously.
