Simvotin 10 mg contains the active ingredient Simvastatin, which belongs to a group of medicines known as statins. The class of medication lower levels of low-density lipoprotein or LDL (considered the bad cholesterol) and triglycerides in the blood while increasing levels of high-density lipoprotein or HDL (considered the good cholesterol). High levels of LDL can result in stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in people with diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors.
Do not take Simvotin 10 mg if you are allergic to it, pregnant or breastfeeding, or have liver disease. Stop taking this medication and notify your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while taking it. Before taking Simvastatin, let your doctor know if you have a history of liver or kidney disease, diabetes, a thyroid disorder, or consume more than 2 drinks of alcohol daily. Do not take antacids without your doctor’s advice; use only those your doctor recommends. If you need to take an antacid, take it after at least 2 hours of taking Simvastatin.
Avoid a high-fat diet and alcohol while taking this medicine. Also, avoid grapefruit and grapefruit-based products while taking Simvastatin. A high-fat diet (especially saturated fat) should be avoided for the best results from Simvastatin. If you do not avoid a high-fat diet, this medicine will not be as effective as it should be. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Alcohol can raise triglyceride levels and may increase your risk of liver damage.
Few people taking Simvotin 10 mg may have mild memory problems or confusion. Another rare but serious side effect of this medicine is foamy urine. Contact your doctor if these rare side effects occur.
In rare cases, Simvastatin can lead to a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, causing kidney failure. Seek medical attention immediately if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if you also have a fever, unusual fatigue, and dark-colored urine.
Simvastatin rarely causes liver problems. Notify your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following symptoms of liver damage: yellowing of the eye and skin, dark urine, severe stomach or abdominal pain, or persistent nausea or vomiting.
The side effects mentioned above are not the only ones you may experience or witness due to Simvotin 10 mg. If you get any serious side effects from this medication, contact your doctor immediately.
Simvotin dosage may depend on a range of factors like age, sex, drug allergies, or seriousness of the condition, among several other factors. Your doctor will determine your dosage after examining you properly. Remember to follow your doctor’s advice properly for best results. Generally, Simvotin is usually taken before or after consuming food. However, taking it with food may reduce the risk of developing nausea. Most people with high cholesterol levels do not show symptoms. Still, stopping your medicine may increase your cholesterol levels, worsen your condition, and increase your risk of heart complications (heart disease and stroke).
