Telma H is a combination of two active ingredients, Telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide, available in one tablet. Both medicines help to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Telmisartan belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Angiotensin II is a natural substance produced by your body, and it causes your blood vessels to narrow, thus increasing your blood pressure. Telmisartan blocks the function of angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to relax, thus lowering blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that increases urine output, lowering blood pressure. High blood pressure, when not treated, can damage blood vessels in several organs, which could lead to heart attack, stroke, heart failure, or blindness. Usually, people having high blood pressure do not show symptoms before damage occurs. Thus, it is important to regularly measure your blood pressure levels to ensure it’s within normal range. The combination drug is used to treat hypertension in adults whose condition is not controlled enough when Telmisartan is used alone.
Do not take Telma H if allergic to Telmisartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or other sulfonamide-derived medicines. If you have diabetes or impaired liver function, avoid taking Telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide.
You must tell your doctor if you are pregnant or can become pregnant. Telma H should not be taken in early pregnancy and must not be taken if you are more than three months pregnant, as it may harm your baby. Hydrochlorothiazide may cause electrolyte imbalance in your body. Signs and symptoms of electrolyte imbalance include dry mouth, lethargy, restlessness, drowsiness, muscle pain, tired muscles, nausea, and an abnormally fast heartbeat. You should also tell your doctor if you develop an increased skin sensitivity to the sun with signs of sunburn occurring more rapidly than normal. The use of Telma H in children and adolescents up to the age of 18 years is not recommended.
The most common side effect of Telma H 80+12.5 mg is dizziness. Other side effects include nausea, tiredness, diarrhoea, flu-like symptoms, and changes to your heartbeat. Talk to your doctor immediately if you get any bothersome side effects.
Take Telma H exactly as your doctor has prescribed you. Check with your doctor if you have any doubts about this medicine. The recommended dose of Telma H is one tablet a day. You can take this combination of medicine before or after consuming food. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water. You must take the tablet every day until your doctor tells you otherwise. Your doctor may prescribe a low dose once daily if you have a liver problem. Taking more than the recommended amount may make you develop low blood pressure and rapid heartbeat. Therefore, do not take more than the prescribed amount of Telma H. If you accidentally take too many, please get in touch with your doctor right away.
