Thyronorm 50 mcg is a replacement for thyroxine hormone that your thyroid gland cannot produce and prevent symptoms of hypothyroidism. Thyroxine is a hormone produced naturally in the body by the thyroid gland. The hormone controls how much energy your body uses. The role of Thyronorm 50 mcg comes when the thyroid gland does not produce enough Thyroxine which hampers many of the body’s functions. Lack of Thyroxine may lead to hypothyroidism; the most common symptoms of hypothyroidism are weight gain, tiredness, and depression. The medicine comprises of Thyroxine, which replaces the naturally produced hormone and prevents the symptoms of hypothyroidism. It is best to use this medicine under the supervision of a doctor. Before you begin the treatment, your doctor will perform a blood test to determine how much levothyroxine your body requires.
Thyroxine may cause weight loss, therefore keep a close eye on your weight and let your doctor know if you lose a significant amount of weight. Certain drugs may affect the way that Thyroxine works and some of them are sertraline, cimetidine, antacids, sucralfate, proton pump inhibitors, imatinib, rifampicin, amiodarone, beta-blockers etc.
The side effects associated with the use of Thyronorm 50 mcg usually occurs by taking a bigger dose than you need. Commonly reported side effects to include anxiety, vomiting, weight loss, nervousness, irregular heartbeat, diarrhoea, or restlessness. Most of these adverse effects will disappear once you are regular with your dose of Thyronorm. Some patients receiving Thyroxine may suffer a severe reaction to high levels of thyroid hormone.
