Valsartan has been widely used to treat diseases like hypertension, diabetic neuropathy, heart attack, and heart failure. It contains the active ingredient Valsartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB).
It is used to treat:
— High blood pressure in adults and children, 6 to 16 years of age - Blood pressure is the pressure in your blood vessels when your heart beats and rests. You develop high blood pressure when the force is too much. Valzaar can cause your blood vessels to relax so your blood pressure is lower. Medicines that cause a reduction in blood pressure reduce your chances of having a stroke or heart attack. When the blood pressure is high, it makes your heart work harder to pump blood throughout your body and ultimately damages the blood vessels. If the condition is left untreated, it can contribute to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, vision problems, and heart attack.
— Treat heart failure - Heart failure occurs when the heart is weak and can’t pump blood to your lungs and the rest of your body. Walking and moving can make you feel breathless, so you may have to rest.
— Improve the chance of living longer after a heart attack in adults - A heart attack occurs when there is a blocked artery that causes damage to the heart muscles.
Tell your doctor if you have allergies, heart conditions, liver problems, kidney problems, are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. The medicine is not for children under six years of age or children with certain kidney problems. Certain drugs can interact with Valsartan and affect its mode of action. These drugs include water pills, a salt substitute, potassium supplements, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like naproxen and ibuprofen. Before you drive a vehicle, operate machines, or carry out other activities requiring your complete attention, ensure you know how valsartan affects you. Like many other medicines used to treat high blood pressure, Valzaar rarely causes dizziness and affects the ability to concentrate.
The most common side effects of Valzaar, used to treat people with high blood pressure, include headache, tiredness, dizziness, stomach pain, and flu symptoms. Generally, most of them are mild. They generally have not caused patients to stop taking this medicine. Commonly reported side effects of Valsartan used to treat people with heart failure include diarrhoea, tiredness, low blood pressure, and blood potassium.
Common side effects experienced by people after a heart attack that caused them to stop taking medicine include low blood pressure, rash, cough, and decreased kidney function. Tell your doctor if you get any side effects that bother you or do not resolve within a few days. These are not all the possible side effects of this medicine; for a complete list, please consult your doctor.
For treatment of high blood pressure, take the tablet once daily. For adult patients with heart failure or who have had a heart attack, take medicine two times daily. Your doctor may be prescribed a low dose and may increase the dose gradually during the treatment. The medicine can be taken before or after consuming food.
