Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg is an oral blood-glucose-lowering drug used to manage type 2 diabetes. It contains Voglibose and Repaglinide as the active ingredients; both the medicines work together to help control the high blood sugar levels in your body after each meal. Your doctor may prescribe Voglibose R when other similar medicines along with a restricted diet cannot control abnormally high blood sugar levels. Repaglinide increases the amount of insulin released by the pancreas. Voglibose inhibits the alpha-glucosidase enzyme, which delays the digestion and absorption of dietary polysaccharides resulting in a reduction of blood glucose.

It may cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or certain other medications.

It is important to take care of your limbs and report any sores or signs of infection to your doctor.

Do not take Volibo if you are allergic to Repaglinide and any of the other ingredients of the medicine. You should also avoid taking medicine if you have severe liver disease, Type 1 diabetes, high blood acid level, or have severe liver disease.

Talk to your doctor before taking Volibo R if you have a kidney problem, a severe illness, liver problems, or other health complications.

Volibo R 0.3//0.5 mg of possible side effects include stomach pain, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, and hypoglycaemia. Most of these are mild and resolve within a few days. If you notice any of the following side effects, discontinue treatment and contact your doctor right away:

  • You suffer from chest tightness, which may spread down the left arm and into the jaw, along with sweating and feeling or being sick with shortness of breath.
  • Hypoglycaemic coma or unconsciousness
  • Difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, sweating, swelling of the face, lips, nose, and eyelids
  • You suffer from fever, pains, aches, weight loss, and tiredness.

Take Volibo R after you have eaten a meal or with a snack, as this will reduce the chances of stomach problems. The dose may vary from patient to patient; it usually depends on their condition. Do not stop treatment without asking your doctor. Diabetes is a lifelong condition, thus requiring treatment for the rest of your life. Sudden discontinuation may increase and put you at high risk of developing serious complications of diabetes such as kidney damage or loss of vision.

What is Voglibose / Repaglinide and what is it used for?

Voglibose and Repaglinide are two medicines combined to help people with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes happens when your body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use it properly, causing sugar to build up in your blood instead of being used for energy. This combination works by slowing down how quickly sugar enters your bloodstream after meals and helping your body release more insulin when you eat. It's especially helpful for people whose sugar levels aren't controlled with diet and exercise alone.

How does Voglibose / Repaglinide actually work in the body?

This combination medicine tackles high blood sugar in two different ways at once. Voglibose works in your digestive system by slowing down enzymes that break down carbohydrates, so sugar enters your bloodstream more gradually after meals instead of spiking suddenly. Repaglinide helps your pancreas release insulin quickly when you eat, which allows your cells to absorb sugar from your blood and use it for energy. Think of it as a two-part team: one slows sugar absorption, the other helps your body handle the sugar better once it arrives.

How long does Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg take to start working?

Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg starts working quite quickly after you take it. The repaglinide portion begins helping your body release insulin within about 15 to 30 minutes of swallowing the tablet, which is why it's taken right before meals. The voglibose part starts slowing sugar absorption as food moves through your digestive system during that same meal. You'll see the full effect on your after-meal sugar levels within one to two hours. However, it takes a few weeks of regular use to see the overall improvement in your diabetes control.

When and how should I take Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg?

Take Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg just before you start eating a meal, ideally within 15 minutes before your first bite. Swallow the tablet whole with water. This diabetes medicine is typically taken two or three times daily, depending on how many main meals you eat. If you skip a meal, you should also skip that dose since it's designed to work with food. Always follow the exact timing and number of doses your doctor prescribed for your specific situation, as individual needs vary based on your sugar levels and overall health.

What should I do if I forget to take a dose of Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg?

If you realize you forgot your dose while you're still eating your meal, take it right away. However, if you've already finished eating or the meal was more than 15 minutes ago, skip that missed dose completely and take your next dose before your next meal as usual. Never take two doses together to make up for a forgotten one, as this could drop your blood sugar too low and make you feel shaky or dizzy. Since this medicine works with food, there's no benefit to taking it without a meal anyway.

Is it safe to take Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg for a long time?

Yes, Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg is designed for long-term use to manage type 2 diabetes, and many people take it safely for years. Diabetes is a chronic condition that requires ongoing treatment to prevent complications with your heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves. Your doctor will monitor your sugar levels, kidney function, and liver health through regular blood tests to make sure the medicine continues working well for you. Some people may need dose adjustments over time as their condition changes, which is a normal part of diabetes care.

Can I take Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg with other medicines I am already on?

Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg can interact with several common medicines, so your doctor needs to know everything you're taking. Blood pressure medicines, certain antibiotics, cholesterol-lowering drugs, and other diabetes medications can either strengthen or weaken its effects, potentially causing your sugar to drop too low or rise too high. Even some over-the-counter painkillers and herbal supplements can cause problems. Make a complete list of all your medicines, vitamins, and supplements before starting this diabetes treatment to help your doctor check for any dangerous combinations.

How is Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg different from similar medicines used for the same condition?

Volibo R 0.3/0.5 mg combines two different types of diabetes medicines in one tablet, which is convenient if you need both. Many people start with just metformin alone, which works differently by reducing sugar production in your liver. Others might take just a single type of medicine that either slows sugar absorption or boosts insulin release, but not both. This combination approach tackles high blood sugar from two angles simultaneously, making it useful when single medicines aren't enough to control your levels throughout the day and after meals.

Is the generic version containing Voglibose / Repaglinide just as good as the branded medicine?

Generic medicines containing Voglibose and Repaglinide work just as effectively as branded versions because they contain the exact same active ingredients in the same amounts. Regulatory authorities require generic manufacturers to prove their products deliver the medicine into your bloodstream at the same rate and amount as the original brand. The main differences you'll notice are the tablet appearance, packaging, and price—generics typically cost much less. Many doctors and patients choose generics specifically because they provide the same diabetes control at a more affordable price for long-term treatment.

What side effects can Voglibose / Repaglinide cause?

The most common side effects of Voglibose / Repaglinide involve your digestive system, including bloating, gas, stomach discomfort, and loose stools, especially when you first start taking it. These usually improve after a few weeks as your body adjusts. Low blood sugar is another possible effect, causing shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, or hunger—this happens more often if you skip meals or exercise more than usual. Some people also experience headaches or weight gain. Serious but rare reactions include severe stomach pain or allergic reactions with rash and swelling.

Who should NOT take Voglibose / Repaglinide or needs to be extra careful with it?

Don't take Voglibose / Repaglinide if you have type 1 diabetes, severe liver disease, or a history of diabetic ketoacidosis. Pregnant or breastfeeding women shouldn't use this combination as it may affect the baby. People with inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal blockages, or chronic digestive problems need to avoid it because Voglibose affects how your intestines work. If you have kidney problems, heart issues, or you're elderly, your doctor will likely start you on a lower dose and monitor you more closely since these conditions change how your body handles the medicine.
