Ezanic gel 20% is a prescription treatment for patients with rosacea, a skin condition characterised by facial redness, often accompanied by bumps and pus-filled spots. It contains the active ingredient Azelaic acid, which is believed to reduce the production of certain substances responsible for causing inflammation. Its regular application helps reduce the inflammation of rosacea.
Precautions with Azelaic acid gel
If you are allergic to Azelaic acid or any other ingredients present in Ezanic gel 20%, do not take this medicine. Rarely has it been observed that some patients with asthma who are treated with this topical formulation experience worsening symptoms.
The product should not be used in children and adolescents, as the safety and effectiveness of the product have not yet been established.
Inform your healthcare specialist if you are taking any other medications while using the topical medicine. There is limited experience with the use of this topical medicine in pregnant women. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning for a baby, ask your healthcare specialist before taking this medicine.
Side effects of Azelaic acid gel
Like any other pharmaceutical agent, Ezanic gel 20% can have side effects. Skin irritation can usually occur during the initial days of the treatment. Commonly reported side effects of Ezanic gel include reddening of the skin, itching sensation, skin dryness, scaling, and burning/stinging/tingling. Allergic skin reaction and infection of the hair follicle are uncommon side effects associated with the use of the Azelaic acid formulation. In most cases, the irritation and mild side effects resolve throughout treatment.
Rarely allergic skin reactions may occur while using Azelaic acid. The following are additional undesirable side effects that have been reported:
‒ Hypersensitivity may occur, accompanied by one or more of the following side effects: eye swelling, rapid swelling under the skin, facial swelling, and trouble breathing.
‒ Hives
No serious side effects have been associated with the use of Azelaic acid gel. If you notice any unusual changes in your skin colour, you should consult your healthcare professional.
Ezanic 20% is for topical use only. This means that the product is applied to the skin. Before applying the topical medicine, thoroughly clean the skin with water or a mild cleanser.
‒ Apply the product to the affected areas twice daily (in the morning and evening) by gently massaging it into the skin. Squeezing a small amount of medicine from the tube on your fingertip is sufficient for the entire face.
‒ The medicine should not come into contact with the eyes, as it may irritate the skin. If you have any concerns about using medicine, please consult your healthcare professional.
‒ In the event of accidental contact with medicine, rinse your eyes, mouth, or nose immediately with plenty of water to ensure no product remains in the affected area. If your eyes continue to hurt, seek immediate medical attention.
‒ If you experience skin irritation, consider reducing the amount of medication you apply each time, decreasing the frequency (apply it only once a day), or temporarily stopping treatment for a few days.
‒ Be sure to wash your hands after each application. Avoid covering the treated area with dressings. Also, avoid using alcoholic cleansers, astringents, abrasives, or peeling agents to prevent irritation. After approximately 15 minutes of Ezanic application, cosmetics without any pharmaceutical agents or those that do not cause acne may be applied.
‒ Please keep the product out of the reach of very young children and ensure they do not touch the treated area of your skin, as the gel-based medicine has a mild irritant effect.
The length of the treatment varies from individual to individual and also depends on the severity of rosacea. You should see significant improvement after about 4 to 8 weeks of regular application. The medication should be used only as prescribed by your dermatologist. People suffering from rosacea should avoid spicy foods, hot foods/drinks, and alcoholic drinks since these may worsen the condition. Also, avoid irritating agents; instead, use a mild skin cleansing product on your face.
Ezanic gel 20% is meant for use on the skin only. Excessive application can cause skin irritation; consult your dermatologist if the irritation becomes severe. In such cases, dermatologists advise reducing the frequency or stopping the use of the topical medicine altogether until the irritation resolves. Do not apply an increased amount of Ezanic gel 20% to make up for the missed application. Continue with your regular application regimen.
