Nevanac Eye Drop 5ml is used to prevent and treat pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery. It reduces the risk of postoperative macular oedema (swelling of the back of the eye) after cataract surgery in diabetic patients.

The active ingredient of the ophthalmic solution is Nepafenac, which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. After topical ocular dosing, Nepafenac is thought to penetrate the cornea. It is converted to amfenac in the eye, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, which then prevents the action of prostaglandin H synthase, an enzyme needed for prostaglandin production. This reduction in prostaglandins is what ultimately leads to the drug’s anti-inflammatory effect.

Things to remember, allergies, and warnings associated with Nepafenac eye drops

Patients should not use Nevanac if they have hypersensitivity to any active ingredient or any of the ingredients in the formulation or to other NSAIDs. Nevanac eye drops should be avoided if you have an allergy to anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or if you have experienced certain health conditions, such as skin allergy, asthma, or severe inflammation in your nose when using other NSAIDs. Examples of NSAIDs include ketoprofen, ibuprofen, diclofenac, piroxicam, and acetylsalicylic acid. Consulting with an ophthalmologist is important in cases of the following conditions.

‒    Bruise easily or have bleeding problems

     ‒    Diabetes

     ‒    Rheumatoid arthritis

‒    Eye disorders, such as eye infections or the use of other medications in the eye.

Patients using Nepafenac are advised to avoid sunlight during the entire treatment. Wearing contact lenses after cataract surgery is not recommended. An ophthalmologist can advise on when to wear contact lenses again. The ophthalmic solution is not intended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as its effectiveness and safety have not been established in this population. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their ophthalmologist before using Nepafenac eye drops in their eyes. Driving or using a machine is also prohibited while using the eye drop unless the vision is clear.

Side effects of Nepafenac eye drops 5ml

Like all pharmaceutical agents, this ophthalmic formulation can cause side effects, although not everyone who uses it gets them. Patients using Nevanac 5 ml may have a higher risk of corneal side effects if they have:

‒    Repeated eye surgery within a short period

     ‒    Complicated eye surgery

‒    Certain general diseases, such as diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis

‒    A certain disease of the surface of the eye, such as inflammation or dry eye.

Consulting a healthcare specialist is important if the eyes become redder or more painful while using the ophthalmic formulation. This may occur due to inflammation on the eye surface, with or without loss or damage to cells, or inflammation of the iris (the coloured part of the eye).

Usage and instructions for Nepafenac eye drops

Nevanac is an ophthalmic formulation for the eyes and should not be swallowed or injected. It is always best to use the eye drops as directed by your healthcare provider. The usual recommended dose is a single drop in the affected eyes, three times daily, in the morning, midday, and evening. Try to use it at the same time daily if you are using other ophthalmic products. Wait at least five minutes between using Nepafenac and the other ophthalmic formulations. Generally, the use of Nevanac eye drops begins a day before cataract surgery. One should also use it on the day of surgery. After that, it should be used for as long as the ophthalmologist prescribes it.

If you use more eye drops than the recommended amount, it is essential to wash your eyes with warm water. And one should make sure that they do not put in any more of this medication until it is time for the next dose.

Usage instructions: Wash hands before using the medication. Shake the bottle well before use. Open the cap, hold the bottle with the cap pointing down, between the thumb and fingers. Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid with a clean finger to make a pocket between the eyelid and the eye. Ensure that you do not touch the eye or the surrounding area with the tip of the bottle. It could also contaminate the ophthalmic solution. Now, gently press the bottle to release one drop of Nevanac at a time, avoiding harsh squeezing of the bottle.

If a patient forgets to use the ophthalmic product, then they may be advised to use a single drop as soon as they remember. If the time for the next dose is near, it is recommended to leave the missed dose and continue with the next scheduled dose. Double-dosing to make up for the missed one should also be avoided. Patients are advised to avoid using more than one drop in the affected eye three times a day. Discontinuing the medicine without consulting the healthcare provider should generally be avoided. One can continue using the medication unless one develops serious side effects. If a patient is concerned about side effects, they should consult their healthcare professional.
