Before taking this medication, let your doctor know if you are allergic to it or to other drugs, if you have ever had heart disease (congestive heart failure), liver disease, a blockage in your digestive tract (stomach or intestines), a history of stomach surgery, coronary artery disease, or hypothyroidism.
Before having a surgery or any medical procedure, inform your doctor or other healthcare personnel that you are taking Nifedipine. This medication may make you dizzy. Do not drive or do any such activities which require a great deal of alertness until you are sure that you can do them safely. Limit or avoid alcohol consumption.
Nifedipine is classfied as an FDA pregnancy category C drug. It is not known whether this medication can harm an unborn baby if taken during pregnancy. This medication can pass into breast milk and harm a nursing baby. You must consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
Before taking Nifedipine
Prior to taking Nifedipine, you must tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: kidney disease, liver disease (especially cirrhosis), a blockage in the digestive tract (stomach or intestines), inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, chronic constipation, a colostomy or a history of stomach surgery such as gastric bypass, colon cancer, hypothyroidism, coronary artery disease, or congestive heart failure. This is for the doctor to judge whether it is safe for you to take this medication.
Extended release tablets of Nifedipine may contain lactose. Let your doctor know if you are lactose intolerant.
How should I take Nifedipine?
Take Nifedipine strictly according to your doctor’s directions or according to the instructions on the medication label. Do not alter the dosage unless your doctor advises you to do so. Also, do not take this medication after the prescribed period is over. All medications come with a patient leaflet. Refer the instructions in them for detailed information on that particular medication. Nifedipine can be taken with or without food. Always store this medicine in a cool and dry place.
Do not break, crush, or chew an extended release tablet of Nifedipine. Instead, swallow it whole. Breaking, crushing, or chewing an extended release tablet may cause too much of the drug to be release in a short time. Let your doctor know if you have excessive sweating, vomiting or diarrhea. These conditions can cause severe low blood pressure.
Some tablet forms of Nifedipine are made with a shell that is not absorbed or melted in the body and gets excreted in the stool. This is normal and not a reason to worry.
What if I miss a dose?
You should take all medication on time as prescribed. Missing even a single dose can be harful in certain cases. If you miss a dose of fo Nifedipine, then take it at the instant you remember it. However, you must skip the missed dose if the time to take the next scheduled dose is near.
What if I overdose?
In case of an overdose of Nifedipine, get emergency medical attention or call the Poison helpline at 1-800-222-1222. Overdose may lead to severe dizziness, pounding heartbeats, nausea, vomiting, or feeling like you might pass out.
Things and Activities to avoid while taking Nifedipine
Alcoholic beverages must be avoided while taking this medicine as alcohol can further lower blood pressure. Also avoid activities which require a high level of mental awareness and reflexes (such as driving). Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit based products as they can interact with Nifedipine and cause potentially dangerous effects.
Nifedipine Side Effects
Some common side effects of Nifedipine are dizziness, flushing, weakness, swelling in ankles or feet or headache. If any of these effects persist or deteriorate, get medical attention right away.
Nifedipine can rarely worsen chest pain or cause heart attack in some people who already have severe heart disease. This happens after starting this medication or increasing the dose. Get medical attention right away if you experience worsening chest pain or the first sign of heart attack (pain in chest/jaw/left arm, shortness of breath, or unusual sweating.
All information includind that of side effects is limited in this guide. If you experience other side effects and think that they are serious, seek medical attention right away. FDA has a helpline for reporting side effects. You can report your side effects (recommended) by calling the helpline at 1-800-FDA-1088 (toll free).

What is Nicardia 20mg used for?
Nicardia 20mg contains Nifedipine 20mg, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB). It is used for the prevention and management of angina pectoris, including vasospastic (Prinzmetal) angina, and for hypertension. Nifedipine relaxes coronary and peripheral arteries through calcium channel blockade. The immediate-release 20mg capsule/tablet is used for acute angina situations and as regular oral therapy in some settings.
How does Nifedipine in Nicardia 20mg work?
Nifedipine in Nicardia 20mg helps relax and widen blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow through the body. It belongs to a group of medicines called calcium channel blockers. By reducing the pressure in blood vessels, it helps lower high blood pressure and decreases the workload on the heart. Nifedipine also improves blood supply to the heart muscles, which helps prevent chest pain (angina). Regular use of Nicardia 20mg can help reduce the risk of heart-related complications and improve overall heart health.
How should Nicardia 20mg be taken?
Nicardia 20mg immediate-release is typically taken two to three times daily, with or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. The eccentric dosing required with short-acting nitrates is not needed for Nifedipine. However, short-acting Nifedipine (immediate release) causes rapid vaSodiumilation and should not be used for acute blood pressure crises due to reflex tachycardia risk. Follow your cardiologist's prescribed schedule.
Is Nicardia 20mg suitable for Prinzmetal angina?
Yes. Nifedipine is a first-line treatment for vasospastic (Prinzmetal) angina. It prevents coronary artery spasm by blocking smooth muscle calcium influx. Clinical studies have shown Nifedipine reduces the frequency and severity of Prinzmetal angina attacks significantly. It can be used alone or combined with long-acting nitrates for comprehensive vasospastic angina management. Beta blockers are generally avoided in Prinzmetal angina.
Can Nicardia 20mg be used for hypertensive urgency?
Sublingual Nifedipine (biting a capsule to release liquid for sublingual absorption) was historically used for hypertensive urgency but is now discouraged due to unpredictable and rapid blood pressure drops causing stroke, MI, and death. This practice is no longer recommended by cardiology or emergency medicine guidelines. For hypertensive urgency, oral controlled-release antihypertensives or specialist emergency management is preferred.
Is Nicardia 20mg safe in patients with heart failure?
Nifedipine — particularly the short-acting immediate-release form — should be used with caution in heart failure. Its negative inotropic effect (modest reduction in cardiac contractility) and reflex tachycardia from rapid vaSodiumilation can worsen heart failure. If a CCB is needed in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, only Amlodipine or Felodipine (dihydropyridines with proven safety in heart failure) should be used. Nicardia 20mg IR is not recommended in HFrEF.
How does Nicardia 20mg compare to Adalat 20mg?
Nicardia 20mg and Adalat 20mg (Bayer originator brand) both contain Nifedipine 20mg immediate-release. They are therapeutically equivalent. Adalat is the well-known global brand at premium pricing. Nicardia 20mg is the Indian-manufactured generic equivalent available at AllDayChemist at a substantially lower price with the same antianginal and antihypertensive efficacy.
Is generic Nifedipine 20mg as effective as brand Adalat?
Yes. Generic Nifedipine 20mg is bioequivalent to Adalat 20mg. The vaSodiumilatory mechanism of Nifedipine — calcium channel blockade — is identical regardless of the manufacturer. AllDayChemist provides quality-assured Nicardia 20mg at accessible international prices. For patients using Nifedipine for Prinzmetal angina or hypertension management, the generic delivers identical clinical benefits as the brand.

Discreet packaging, free international shipping on qualifying orders, and reliable tracking make it a convenient pharmacy for antianginal and antihypertensive medications.
What side effects does Nicardia 20mg cause?
Common side effects of Nifedipine 20mg include flushing (facial redness and warmth), headache, dizziness, palpitations (reflex tachycardia from rapid vaSodiumilation), and peripheral oedema (ankle swelling). The immediate-release formulation causes these effects more acutely than controlled-release formulations due to faster drug absorption. Constipation is less common than with Verapamil. Gingival hyperplasia (gum overgrowth) can occur with long-term use.
What precautions are needed with Nicardia 20mg?
Do not use sublingual Nifedipine for hypertensive urgency — this practice is dangerous. Avoid in cardiogenic shock and significant aortic stenosis. Use with caution in heart failure. Grapefruit juice inhibits Nifedipine metabolism — avoid. Combining with beta blockers can be useful for angina (CCB + beta blocker) but monitor for additive blood pressure lowering and AV conduction effects. Do not combine Nifedipine with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors without dose adjustment.
