Tiger Balm is a topical product that provides temporary relief from minor muscle aches, pains, stiffness and strains. It is widely used for relieving joint pain, back pain, sprains, stiffness, and arthritis pain. This balm is to be applied to the area experiencing pain; it is also well-absorbed through the skin. Tiger Balm usually contains camphor and menthol. The topical product may also contain other ingredients, such as clove oil and cajuput oil, among others. Camphor enhances blood circulation and induces sensations of coolness or warmth in the skin. Menthol helps restrict blood vessels, which reduces inflammation and provides a cooling sensation. The gel formulation works as an analgesic, helping to alleviate pain by numbing the skin.

Tiger Balam is a topical product and should not be ingested. It is primarily used to relieve deep pain, such as musculoskeletal pain. Tiger balm should not be applied to shingle blisters, as these can break and crust over. Do not get the formulation into your eyes, on the mucous membranes, or in other sensitive areas, such as the ear canal, vagina, or rectum.

The balm preparation should not be applied to cuts, scrapes or open wounds. If you are allergic to any topical product, be sure to test the balm on a small skin area to ensure it doesn’t irritate your skin before applying it to a larger part of your skin. Avoid bathing for at least 6 hours after applying the balm and refrain from wrapping the treated area with a bandage or clothing after application. You should also avoid indulging in activities that may increase your body temperature, such as intense exercise.

Skin irritation can cause redness, pain, or, in rare cases, bleeding in the affected area. If you develop irritation or redness while using the balm, discontinue usage. Avoid using Tiger Balm if you are allergic to salicylates, aspirin, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). The product may cause an allergic reaction, characterised by a skin rash, etc.

Application methods

Tiger Balm is applied topically to the skin and can be used as needed when pain arises. Rinse your hands with soap and water before use. Be sure to apply the formulation to the part of your body which is affected by pain. Gently massage the gel into your skin until it is fully absorbed. Wash your hands after applying the product. Most people apply it 3-4 times a day when pain recurs. Normally, it provides relief within 10 to 20 minutes.

The best thing is that you can apply Tiger Balm even if you use any over-the-counter or prescription pain relievers. However, it is always a wise decision to consult your healthcare specialist if you wish to use it in conjunction with another topical reliever, as the concomitant use may cause the skin to become irritated.
