The lung disease asthma can be both chronic as well as acute in nature. The exact cause of the problem is not known but it can be triggered by various factors such as allergies, air pollution, emotions and certain medications etc.

Here are few simple home remedies for asthma that can provide you relief from the symptoms.

Ginger:
Ginger is a very old known natural remedy for asthma. It is known and proven to reduce the inflammation of airways and it also prevents the contraction of airways.
To use ginger you can do any of the following:

Mix ginger juice and honey in equal quantities and drink it three times a day
Boil crushed ginger in a cup of water and drink the concoction before hitting the bed every day
Eating raw ginger with salt can also help

Figs:
Fig is a very nutritious fruit. It is known to drain the phlegm out of the respiratory tract and remove the breathing difficulties. To use fig, wash dried figs and soak in water overnight. Then you can drink the water used for soaking and eat the soaked figs. It should be taken on empty stomach.

Mustard oil:
It is a very good home remedy for the treatment of asthma. If a proper massage is given to the person with asthma using warm mustard oil then it may help to ease the symptoms of asthma attack. You can also add some bits of camphor in the mustard oil and then warm the oil for massage purpose. This oil when massaged on chest and back can relieve the breathing difficulties.

Garlic:
Garlic is a well known decongestant and is significantly used for the treatment of asthma as a home remedies. Garlic can promote the clearance of the congestion in your lungs. You can use the garlic by boiling 2-3 cloves in a quarter cup of milk. Then bring the milk to room temperature and then drink it.

Eucalyptus oil:
One of the most commonly used product in various herbal medications related to inflammation, eucalyptus oil is a very good home remedy for asthma. You can use the oil by putting a few drop on a paper tower and keeping it near your pillow to breathe in all night. You can also take in the steam of eucalyptus oil and boiling water. The decongestant properties of eucalyptus oil is very helpful in the treatment of asthma.

Coffee:
Caffeine present in coffee is a strong bronchodilator. Hot coffee is effective to relax the airways and clear the phlegm that may built up. Strong coffee works well. But always remember to limit the caffeine intake for up to 2-3 times a day. You can also drink tea if you do not like coffee.

Honey:
Honey is rich in ethereal oil and alcohol. It is very effective in removing the phlegm of the throat and also provides a good relief from the asthma symptoms. You can use honey in the following ways:

Take a glass of hot water and mix a teaspoon of honey into it. Drink this mixture 2-3 times a day till you start feeling better. Regular use can help you to get rid of asthma.
Mix a teaspoon of honey with half teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Swallow the mixture. Do this every night before bed. It is very good home remedy for asthma as it will remove the phlegm and reduce asthma attacks.

Turmeric:
Turmeric has great anti inflammatory and antibiotic properties. It is used since ages to cure many health problems including breathing problems like asthma.
You can use turmeric by mixing a teaspoonful of turmeric in a warm glass of milk and drinking it. You should drink this mixture atleast 2-3 times in a day. It will help you to control the frequency of asthma.

Peppermint:
Peppermint is also a good cure for asthma. To use peppermint you have to add 10 drops of peppermint oil in a glass of boiling water and let it simmer until the water starts completely evaporating. Now breathe in the steam of peppermint oil. Repeat the process whenever you feel you are having breathlessness.

Lemon:
Lemon is also good for breathing problem. Drink as much as lemon water as you can so that you can get ample amount of vitamin C, a good antioxidant that will kill bacteria and reduce the inflammation problems caused due to asthma.
